Which driver?: Dell Precision Desktop T1500 nVidia Quadro FX580 512Mb
I'm re-installing my Dell Precision T1500 desktop work station changing from Windows 7 Professional 32-bit to 64-bit.
Can anyone explain if there is a reason I should install the nVidia Quadro FX580 driver 191.75 available by Dell
downloads since May, 2010 instead of more recent 267.05 driver available by nVidia downloads?
I know that installing manufacturer specific drivers is important when you have an OEM-version of a product installed or
an integrated graphics adapter/sound card but in my case the Quadro FX580 GPU has been added in post-upgrade
out of a retail box so it should be supported by the most recent Nvidia driver. Or?
On the other hand I got the following answer when scanning for a driver a few minutes ago on the nVidia website:
"Installed driver: 191.75
Your PC currently has the latest driver installed for your GPU. No driver update is necessary at this time."
Why isn't nVidia directing me to the most recent driver?
How can the 191.75 driver be the latest driver when there have been several more recent drivers launched by nVidia
for my graphics adapter since May, 2010?
Please tell me what to do. I would prefer to install the correct driver from start as experience shows
that replacing a GPU driver could prove to be an agonizing experience...

Hi Andylindy,
The nVidia driver is preferred. If you go to the nVidia site and use their driver check tool, it will find the most current driver.

Thanks for responding.
I've already used "Nvidia Driver Downloads" and in fact that's where I got puzzled. :emotion-42:
If I use Option 1: Manually find driver, the most current driver for my GPU is 267.05 for both Windows 7 32-bit and
64-bit.
Then I go to Option 2: Nvidia Smart tool scan, and it tells me that I've already got the "latest" driver installed which
is the 191.75 installed from Dell downloads (my PC is still running on W7 32-bit awaiting the migration to 64-bit).
So I'm still confused. Why are there two drivers that both are the "latest" for my Precision T1500 with the
Quadro FX580 GPU? Is there something "special" with the "Dell 191.75" driver that I need to run on my
platform considering motherboard, chipset, BIOS, or...?
(My Nvidia Quadro FX580 is a retail card added in post-upgrade install and not an OEM-card or the like So it should run
on generic Nvidia drivers, I believe).

Strange. Maybe that is the latest driver for that card. But there is no reason the 191.75 drivers shouldn't work perfectly well.

I've now downloaded and installed the latest available Windows 7 64-bit driver available for the Nvidia Quadro FX580
= version 267.05, on my Dell Precision T1500.
It has been working without problems so far and therefore it seems safe to download generic drivers from Nvidia instead
of those available by download from Dell. For some reason Dell drivers have specific numbers and are often much "older"
than those available by Nvidia downloads. And Nvidia's latest drivers are also WHQL certified.
This is for a PCI-Express GPU fitted as OEM or sold as post-upgrade by Dell. Integrated graphics adapters may very well
still need specific drivers to work as intended.

I can't get any nVidia hardware to work in my T1500 either. You can watch it, in the device manager, it installs, then uninstall continually, from GT560ti to Other > Display Adapter with the error. . I had to go with an ATI video card, and OLDER one, and it worked, but it's a *** card. I have two nVidia cards, a GT430, and a GT650ti, and neither of them work. I have reset the CMOS, and booted into safe mode and did what needed to be done. Both cards work in all three of my other PCs, but not this Dell 1500.

Oh, the one that was in it, was a nVidia Quadro? So, why don't the GT series cards work in this PC?
