BIOS update Inspiron N5010

Inspiron 15R N5010 / Win7HB / I wanna know if anybody updated bios of this system successfully, 'coz I'm having some hardware issues The Fan continuously running.....No brightness control for Non-OS platforms...does not recognize Battery sometimes....etc So, I wanna do an update... but as earlier told by many experts that updating BIOS can cause a system failure, i'm a bit scared about it. Can anybody report here of successful BIOS update done on Inspiron N5010.... Experts, please suggest some measures for BIOS update particularly for N5010.

I am also using Inspiron N5010 with following configuration:

Processor: Intel Core i5 M460 2.53GHz

RAM: 4 GB

Graphics: (1Gb) ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5000 Series

I usually upgrade my bios and currently I have the latest version A15 I had no problem at all it worked great with Windows 7 64bit but since I have upgraded to Windows 8 Pro 64bit I am having system crash problem like every hour I am not sure if it is bios or anything else.

I updated mine and it blew the heck out of my systems sound and operationg ability. It was specifically listed for my laptop from dell and now I can not go backwards and undo. Dont update!!!!!!!

First, try another Dell OEM AC adapter.  If that doesn't solve the problem, replace the DC jack:

I recently upgraded to windows 8 pro 64bit... the problem is my battery is not charging..i bought the battery today only..and when i checked my ac adapter in BIOS it is showing unknown..need some help here :emotion-8:.

Model N5010 i3 processor with 4gb ram and 512mb graphic card.

I went to a repair center where he tested it with another 90W charger then also no result...but it is running perfectly without battery..he said me that battery is not taking charge and has to be replaced.

Kindly tell me whether it is a original battery or fake one

That isn't the correct answer.  If the AC adapter isn't recognized, the problems is with one of three things:  the adapter itself (which you have now ruled out), the DC jack (which is the next suspect), or the mainboard (the most expensive part, which should be the last thing you consider replacing).

If the battery itself isn't recognized, then it too may be bad - but don't waste money replacing a battery that the system does recognize.  The problem IS NOT with the battery - it's with the DC jack or the charge circuit on the mainboard itself.

     It has come to my attention that "One of these Techs is not like the other."  Techs don't necessarily always "know" what is wrong or what is affecting your computer. All they have to go on are the symptoms that present at the time you take it in. Here's what I can tell you... Lithium Ion Batteries are VERY PREDICTIBLE...true to such a degree that the manufacturers negotiate the wholesale of cells based on number of charge/depletion cycles, cycle depth, average storing temperature and average charge tolerances, (Li-Ion don't like to be stored on a full charge) and power demand when under "load."

     Asking your Tech the right questions can help you and him/her better understand the nature of the problem at hand. For example: "I understand you believe the battery will not take a charge. Can you attach it to the laptop and plug in the charger so we can see what the Dell Quickset Utility displays when the Battery Status Function Key is selected?"  This might seem like "Talking Down" but believe me NOTHING goes without saying when it comes to your computer. The acronym for "within normal limits" is WNL but I usually refer to it as "We Never Looked!" One more thing worth mentioning is this...There is a DC - I/O subsystem board that is , from a Technicians perspective, easily replaced and fairly inexpensive. This board is responsible for ALL THINGS power input related and sometimes fail. Your Tech should be able to test this for you "while you wait." It is not a complicated test.
