Did you buy the WWAN card? If not, this whole exercise is pointless.

really I dont have notion about this piece, but when I bought this netbook ,I was not given the option to add one when I ordered the netbook, I assumed it came from the factory.

Ok, let's suppose that i want to update this piece, i need to know if is  possible

because this is one reason why purchase this computer

I tried ordering one recently, and I wasn't given the ability to buy WWAN. So the SIM slot is useless.

Contact a data service provider like Verizon or ATT and sign up for data service, they will provide the sim card you can put in the slot and you can pay them the monthly fee to use their service, simple as that.

Maybe you should read the rest of the thread before making such as comment, the assumption based on the previous comments is that the computer has a sim card slot, dah. Dell does not provide data services, that is not their business.  But they do make devices that use data services,  As does Motorola and Samsung and a lot of other hardware manufacturers.   Dell support will tell you to contact a data provider for a sim card and an account so you can use the hardware in the computer. I have one and that is how it works. Maybe you should retract you comment so others are not confused by your rash response.

WRONG

It is not as simple as that. Without the hardware, a SIM card is USELESS.

Please don't post false information.

The system doesn't come with the required WWAN mini-card,nor does it appear Dell sells one for this system.   That being the case, you are likely in for a bit of an experiment to get broadband service to work this way - beyond the card, which likely doesn't have the needed antenna connections inside the system, you'll need drivers - which may be available for some systems but may or may not work with this one.

If you need service with the system, consider a USB WWAN adapter - it will be a much, much simpler solution - and many providers will give  you a USB adapter free of charge when you sign the contract for the data service.

I have this netbook/tablet; and, went to Rogers to purchase a sim card for it.  I got the sim card for it no problem; but, the netbook does not recognize the sim card... I was on the phone with Dell for a week but they did not know what to do about the problem and kept insisting that it was a Rogers issue, that they should have given me some software to install so that the netbook can recognize the sim card... Rogers would tell me that the manufacturer is responsible for the operating systems and the software that makes the netbook work.  In the end, neither one helped me and I have a sim card that I cannot use with the tablet, so I had to get a rocket stick, which defeats the purpose of a netbook/tablet that is SUPPOSED to have sim card capabilities and provide portable internet!!  The netbook is too new and sadly places like Rogers don't know how it works yet; but, it seems that neither does Dell.

Dell doesn't understand how it works?????

What part of Dell does not sell a WWAN card for this, do you not understand???????

I understood it perfectly... I'm saying, if it requires a WWAN card to be able to take a sim card, why wouldn't dell put one in or mention anything about it to me all the times I was on the phone with them.

Also, this is supposed to be a help forum... you being rude to people on here doesn't really help anyone, unless it makes YOU feel better about yourself, in which case, good for you.

I got my answer... and understood it just fine.  I was just sharing MY experience.  Thank you for your "feedback", and for doing your part to "help" all of us by trying to make us all feel stupid.

Because Dell didn't want to.

Because what you do on your own is none of Dell's problem. You purchased the Rogers SIM card, you talk to Rogers. Now, you pretend to know that you need the hardware. You change your story to make yourself look like you know what is going on, but don't. I'd bet Dell told you what is what and *you* wouldn't listen. Your mistake buying the Rogers SIM card. Not a Dell problem. PERIOD.

Actually the guy from Dell that I talked to every day for five days remotely accessed my computer and he still couldn't figure out why it wouldn't work... and he never mentioned anything about an WWAN anything... I learned about that from you.  I never pretended to know anything.  It was why I came on this forum to try to understand what was going on... and to get help... but jerks like you don't want to help anyone... they just like being jerks.  I will now be unsubscribing from this thread so that I don't have to waste any more of your time or waste any more of my time with people like you who just get satisfaction from treating others badly.  I would urge others who need help with their computer problems to get it elsewhere.  There is no need for anyone to go asking for help to EVER get a DUH from anyone.  Especially a jerk who clearly doesn't get it himself.  I never claimed to know everything... I actually didn't understand the problem at all, which was why I came to this thread in the first place.  Really sorry that I did.

If you came here looking for help, you would have read what transpired in the prior posts. Yet, you chose contribute to this thread by still blaming Dell for a problem not of its making.  You were lucky the Dell guy tried to help. Dell is under no obligation since it was for a SIM card that you purchased *elsewhere*.

I just got off the phone with tech support, and was told that until dell upgraded the software, the duo did not have the capability of using the simm card, and when and if they upgraded, I would have to upgrade my motherboard. It didn't make much sense to me, why would that slot be there? and why does the manaul show how to insert it? I think I will try call another time.
