Dell Inspiron N5010 Temperature Issue!

Hi all^^ I'm so happy to join you here in the Dell community.

I bought the Dell Inspiron N5010 laptop a week ago, main specs:

Core i7 740QM 1.73GHz - 4GB RAM - ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 (1GB Memory)

I'm happy with the performance of this laptop, but since the first day of purchase (or let's say the following day as i left it charging for 12 hours) I noticed that it heats and i can feel it when i touch the keyboard from the middle, the bottom (touchpad) and the left side (where the cpu or the fan). And what makes me worried that it's hot even when i don't do any activity, and the heat sink of the fan spins loudly even if there is no program running, and cpu usage was only 2 to 6 percent.

here are some temperatures monitored by (CPUID) after 10 minutes of playing a game called Homefront:

Is this normal? Or do you think it's some kind of a factory defect?!  I'm really worried..

Please anyone who has this model of laptop (or a Core i7 laptop) can you please mention your temperature so that i compare with my laptop!

In addition to heating, i also noticed a strange sound or clank that comes out from the bottom side.. Do you have any ideas about that?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you

The Tripler

I don't have exact ranges of temperature for your notebook but with a notebook with a Core I 7 processor and a fairly high end video card, the heat generated by the note book is going to be impressive.  I certainly suggest continue to monitor the system with CPUID to get an idea on what the typical temperatures generated by the system.  I also suggest periodically running the fan and thermal extended diagnostics test.

http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/kcs/document?&docid=DSN_155502&isLegacy=true

The preceding link gives instructions on running extended diagnostics. Once in the extended tests look for fan and thermal tests.  It will warn you if there is a problem.

I too have the same problem. I guess the cooling system fitted is not adequate to cool down the system. The Touchpad as well as the body become very hot while playing games and the fan is loud and incompetent...

This is my first and last purchase of Dell if this heating issue is not solved or Dell should replace the heatsink free of cost.

My laptop temperatures are 52 degrees when idle and 65-70 after 10 min gameplay...The heat is so much that the entire body gets hot.

Dell must act on this issue.

Hello.

I've the same problem too. When system is idle the CPU temperature is 77C-85C degrees, and cooling system(fan) works very loud. When i start play game, after 15 minutes notebook shuts down (((

I dont know what to do with it, and i very disappointed with this notebook and with Dell.

Will Dell developers give us some answer on this questions?

I recently (just over 30 days old) bought n5010 laptop and it's burning hot!! I bought it for my kid and it just burns - hot air blows from the left side and the bottom gets hot - his laps! I took the battery out to see if it was causing the heat, but it

made no difference.

This is ridiculous for Dell to be selling a dangerous product like this. How many people should get burned or suffer from harmful radiation due to the heat before you fix it? I'm furious and kicking myself for going with a "brand" name!

Same here i7 + hd5650 gets too hot (burns your finger on the side of esc key) and shut itself down sometimes. Cleaning the ventilation grill with air and a brush helps a bit.

Not happy!

I bought d same series of laptop N5010 wid i3 processor, 320gb Hdd, 1gb ram, 512 Mb Ati radeon graphic card. my laptop started giving me heating issues after 3-4 months of purchase & after that twice my heatsink & motherboard has been changed by dell. But still d problem arises after 2-3 months of use.

Recently i found a solution, just open ur laptop, remove the heat sink, & open the fan & clean it from inside, also change the thermal compound on the processor & graphic card. This is wat i did & d results were excellent.... d temp has dropped from 75-80 C to 40-45 C.

1st of all dun click the "GAME EXPLORER" at the start there! (u get what i trying to said) follow this 2 link

kuyadoconcept.blogspot.com/.../terminate-not-responding-game-explorer.html

kuyadoconcept.blogspot.com/.../disable-game-explorer-feature.html

2nd supportapj.dell.com/.../driverslist.aspx upgrade ur bios to A15 (compulsory) u need insert ur battery & use power brick adapter & close all program that running (don't turn off ur power when during/after installation) when is done ur lappy will auto-restart!

3rd if u playing old game like counter strike (open task manager) u will notice rundll32.exe is running then u should END PROCESS it! kuyadoconcept.blogspot.com/.../store.html *download kudayo explorer restarter to disable all time* so u no need so troublesome

i'm dell inspiron 15R N5010 user & my lappy still kicking strong. as long ur lappy at underneath got some ventilation then it might help a lot. even though germany ambient temp r cooler than M'sia. i bought Zalman NC-2000 at amazon germany cos my cousins stay there. around 40-50 euro only! so a cooling pad r badly needed!

for those having issue on N5110 i suggest returning it cos might due to sandy bridge issue! i know a guy having hang + lag issue when inserting pendrive for transferring files & write/copy sry i can't help!

still got any issue just share v me i will tried my best to help u guys out! respect~

Hi, I'm suffering the same. Processor is on fire, HDD too just add bacon and here we go. Intel i7, ATi HD 5650.

Service replaced my heatsink several times.

When it was new, everything is ok, but after few months fan fills up with dust and I'm back to square one. I'm very careful about dust around my PC but it will happen anyway.

I also tried to clean it with air, but this helps very little. Well, it is no good way to clean it from outside.

I would clean it from inside, but heatsink is all the way down under motherboard and something could be easily broken.

Would somebody share experience with cleaning and mainly with motherboard removal? Thanks :-)

Suggested diagnostics won't help, because PC is OK, there is nothing wrong with it.
