Dell Streak 7 and SD card usage

I just got my Streak 7 about a month ago and have been struggling to move stuff to the SD card. There is directions to do this in the year old manual that came with my unit, but to my dismay after struggling for a week while I was on the road trying to get it to work I finally called Dell.  This was absolutely a last resort for me after a couple of calls regarding my Dell laptops over the years.

I was told the instructions in the manual we're for version 2.* and now 3.* and I had to use a app instead.  Now this really burns me in that the unit comes with the SD slot, yet the software with the unit will not allow access.

I'm real close to getting rid of all my Dell stuff as I've done with H-P.  Outsourcing customer service for one to India is absolutely the worst possible thing a technical company can do.

I was told to down the 'app 2 SD Pro" to be able to move the programs from the main memory to the SD card and after paying for the app, I find out this does not work with 3.* yet.

Any help on this forum for moving to SD cards?

Download this free app from market: File Manager from Rhythm Software http://bit.ly/uVZRVR

And it gives you a explorer of the internal storage and SD Card right from the app.

We appreciate the reply, but that app doesn't seem to have any features that would move apps to the SD card.

ellisterry, I'm in the same boat as you. I use an app called SuperBox on both my phone and my Streak 7, and it wasn't until I opened it on my Streak 7 that I realized that this super app could not port apps to the SD card, while it could on my phone. Unfortunately, I'm not a techspert, and I don't know how to go about porting apps to the SD card on the Streak. My best suggestion would be for you to e-mail the developers of your app-to-SD program, and tell them, "Hey, I'm on a Dell Streak 7, it's using Android Honeycomb version 3.2, I can't port apps to my SD card, please look into it," blah blah blah. I'm in the process of writing a similar e-mail to the developers of SuperBox to ask them to do the same thing, because the 2GB of allocated app space that we have on the Streak is unacceptable without apps to SD.

I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help, but if this works for you, please post your success story so that the rest of us know how to port apps to our Streak's SD card :p

Best of luck to you.

I actually ran into my limit fairly quickly, it was pretty frustrating to know that this tablet has 16GB of internal memory and only 2 are allocated for apps. The problem is that the Honeycomb build of Android allows information to be read from external memory, but none written to it, so in short, no apps will be written to the SD card by a Honeycomb tablet. The best thing we could do at this point would be to pressure Google to change that for the next build of Android... and this sucks. lol

Yes this is a Honeycomb limitation not the DS7.  So don't blame the DS7.  :-)

I am having the same problems. I just went through about 6 different app, trying to move them to SD, with no luck. Now, after reading these comments I am really frustrated.  2 G is NOT enough room!!!  I want to be able to move my stuff, that's all there is to it. Next tablet I buy, WILL  NOT be a Dell, that is for sure, maybe I should just go get an IPad and be done with it.  If anyone knows an answer to this problem, please reply. It would be very much appreciated.

Please read my comment, about 2-3 post above. Google, who makes the Honeycomb OS, is to blame, not Dell. Welcome to the world of Android. You and I shell out $200 or more to be Google's beta tester. If you are not happy, then I suggest getting an iPad, or wait for the Windows 8 tablet coming out this fall.
