PS6100 series faster then PS6000 series

  • Exceptional I/O performance: Up to 67% IOPS improvement with EqualLogic PS6100 and PS4100 Series arrays over previous generation arrays.1Based on 2011 internal Dell testing comparing configurations of up to 3 Dell EqualLogic PS6100XV arrays to Dell EqualLogic PS6000XV arrays running Firmware v5.1 with IOmeter and FIO test tools in Microsoft® Windows® and Linux® operating system environments with typical block sizes (4 and 8K) and read:write mix (70:30 or 80:20).

I am interested to understand where this up to 67% performance increase is coming from. Is it due to the hardware, firmware? Or is this more marketing then anything?

Hello,

The PS 6100 has more drives, using 2.5in drives, latest controller and more cache.

I don't believe the actual numbers are quoted anywhere.  I suggest speaking with a sales rep about it, they may have that info.

67% IOPS improvement  = how many IOPS, The info should be available online.

Below is the IOPS for different kinds of drives that are available in the Equallogic arrays.

7.2k sata drives can handle 80 iops per second.

10k SAS drives can handle 140 iops per Second

15k SAS drives can handle 180 iops per Second.

How many IOPS is that?  I cannot find anywhere on dell site how many IOPS it can do.

with the PS6100 with 24 7200 sas disks and 4 connections to the LUN formated out to 2TB will get between 400-550 write IOPS per second consider that the response time to the array is @ between 0 and 4 milliseconds.

This was the creation of a template from a 100 GB VM
