TS-H653A DVD+-CD DRIVE PROBLEM

Have a Dell E521 machine with TS-H653A drive. Recently updated firmware from Dell to drive & now drive won't read any discs. When disc is inserted drive lights flash momentarily but drive never spins to read disc. Is drive bad or do I have driver & firmware issues? Thanks.

The firmware update only addressed a diagnostic issue with the tray, nothing else and was not really needed.

The only drivers for CD/DVD drives is the built in Windows drivers.  There are no 3rd party drivers or updates.

The firmware could have corrupted the drive and if this is what happened the drive will have to be replaced.

What was the problem that made you update the firmware? or was it just installing available updates?

Try reinstalling the firmware update, if it will install, and see if that helps.  If not, it looks like the drive will have to be replaced.  Fortunately drives are relatively inexpensive.  HERE is an example of a SATA CD/DVD burner replacement drive from newegg.com (where I buy most of my PC parts).
