Optiplex 755 SFF hard drive mounting

I recently got an Optiplex 755 Small Form Factor from work. The had drive had been removed. I bought a new hard drive and when I went to install it I discovered that there was no way to secure the hard drive in the drive bay. From my research I've been able to determine that there is normally some sort of blue mounting clips or rails that the hd sits in and then those clips secure it in the bay. I asked the IT guys at work, and they threw them away when they took out the old hard drives.

So my question: does anyone know where I can get a replacement mounting tray/clip/rails? I've looked everywhere online and can't find one specific to the 755 SFF. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

If you are certain you have a Small Form Factor, you could try this one:  Dell Opti 745 755 SFF NH645.  You needn't purchase it from E-Bay if you have an alternate source; the last five characters are the Dell part number.

P.S.  Check out this section of the on-line manual for instructions.  Note that it has an opening for a fan:  Optiplex 755 SFF Drives.

For that you may need to contact Dell Spare Parts, 1-800-357-3355.

You should be able to Visually Tell.   The Desktop Uses 5.25 inch Optical Drive.  The TOWER has Two 5.25 inch Optical Drives.

The SFF has a Laptop Style Optical Drive and the USFF uses a "D Series" Laptop Drive with Ejector pin.  The USFF allows the CD/DVD

to be removed and a D Series Floppy Drive put in its place.   DCNE refers to DESKTOP Model.

Desktop Computer (Model # DCNE) Specifications

Physical

Height 11.4 cm (4.5 inches)

Width 39.9 cm (15.7 inches)

Depth 35.3 cm (13.9 inches)

DESKTOP Hard Drive uses a BLUE Tray

I checked eBay earlier, but I guess I wasn't using the right search terms. I found another one on there for about $8.50. Thanks!

The one I got did not have the fan included. Is the fan a must have or more of a nice to have?

Some versions will have a fan failure message if the machine gets too hot with a drive installed.

Go here:  support.dell.com.  Look in the menu on the left and find System Configuration and click on it.  If a default computer comes up, click the link to choose another product.  You should get a box offering a space to type in your service tag.  Do that and see what comes up.

And the model is DCNE, which according to a search done on the forum means it's the Desktop version.

You know, I thought for sure I had the SFF and ordered the piece. It doesn't fit. I honestly have no idea what size 755 I have. I know it's an Optiplex 755. That's on the case. That's all I'm sure of. However, now that the piece I ordered didn't fit, I decided to verify which one I have based on this page and comparing measurements from the Tech Specs. Mine doesn't match any of 'em! The one it comes closest to is the Desktop (DT). My machine's measurements are H: 15.625"   W: 4.5"  D:13.875"

So that's my fault for assuming I knew what version I had. It's just very odd that my measurements don't match what's on Dell's site. Looks like this is more along the lines of what I need.

I'm an idiot. Anyways, thanks for the help again.

I put in my service tag and it just brings up OptiPlex 755--it doesn't specify which version.

Thanks for the confirmation. I had even watched that video prior to ordering the caddy--it was just hard to tell because they never took the drive out of the caddy in the video. Oh well. And I love how the dimensions for the same model are different (albeit slightly) on two different Dell pages. So I'm off to order the blue tray and hopefully that will be the end of that. Thanks again.

On to my next issue which I'll be creating a new thread for--my 755 keeps shutting down unexpectedly. It seems to only happen after I wake the machine up from sleeping. Very frustrating.
