I bought this inspiron two month ago. Now I install Windows 8 Pro as an upgrade and 4 times complete new. The Result:

After a few Seconds there are only changing colors on the display and no chance to get into the system. No succesfull Results in all Windows Repairoptions.

I´ve called the dell hotline and made a hardware test and lot of things. Comment: Windows 8 can run on this pc.

I'm going to try this fix. Very frustrated with Dell support. They completed the temporary fix and the issue recurred and I am now told that upgrading to Win 8 voided my warranty and to have any further assistance I need to purchase the $200 service plan for a one month old computer that they certified was Win 8 ready. Fingers crossed as Dell support has checked out on this apparently known issue.

Chuck, I know exactly how you feel.

I called dell and the Tech I spoke with kept telling me to "Go back to Windows 7 to ensure it is not a hardware issue"..

It's not a damn hardware issue, it worked perfectly fine in Win7 then when going to 8, which is clearly stated as working on the Dell website, only known issue's is with Audio and a TV Tuner card, the issue appeared..

Dell rep kept saying that Windows 8 is not fully supported, even though the website states that it's supported, that there are drivers..  They should not state their product can work with windows 8 and then deny it over the tech support. They kept trying to use the excuse that Windows 8 is very new and it takes time.

Sure, I understand that, but do NOT then tell me that Windows 8 works and have driver support when it's broken.. I'm sure they could easily resolve the issue.

I mean, the driver that works fine on the system is a Microsoft Driver.. Maybe they should just call microsoft and get them to send them what they need and just build on that..

Dell frustrates me beyond belief. I would not recommend one to anyone or ever purchase one for myself or a friend.

Shipped with el cheepo Dell qwerty key board without half moons etc....what do we do??

Is Win8 worth alll this?   I had a devil of a time getting used to it and just as I was getting comfortable, another known bug which plagues win8, came upon me.  It's the Library folders which houses pictures, documents, music, etc.   They disppear!  After speaking with Dell tech several times to no avail, I finally got one who had to come to the Dell forums, and that's how he discovered it was a known problem.  He tried the fix suggested, didn't work.  I have to admiire his ingenuity in resolving the issue the way he did, however, I ended up with a brand new 64 bit Dell Inspiron 3520, gerry rigged with an older OS library folders installed.  That was his remedy for the problem.  No rebates no discount for the now gerry rigged product.  But you know what?  After using it a while, I decided I liked the old library files better than the win8.  I also discovered I liked just about everything older (vista, XP, win7) better than win8.  Anyone want to buy a 64 bit Inspiron 3520 w/win8, only used 3 months?   What a hunk of junk.. But if you like win8, I've got a great deal for ya!

Please refer to this post:

I have posted the fix for this issue. It is a bit of reading but please refer to it. please make sure to read carefully.

I have instructed that to get past the flashing screen, press the SLEEP button on the keyboard(moon icon) After a few seconds, press any key on the keyboard, or the moon again, to bring it out of sleep.

You should be able to get to the desktop and work with the system. HOWEVER, this is a TEMPORARY Fix and to resolve the issue for good continue reading, there is detailed instructions on how to install the proper Driver.

Thanks so much for the post. It indeed fixed it but it caused another problem.

The new display driver does not support 1920x1200 resolution which makes the screen look funky.

Is there another display driver to download for the inspiron 2320 with that resolution that wont make the color cycling prob happen again???

Starting to drive me a lil nuts.

Thanks for the help in advance!!

On my clients computer that I used the fix on allows for 1920 x 1080 at maximum, no higher as well.

I do not know of another working driver that does not cause the display issue to happen. As soon as it is changed from that initial driver it has issues, It is related to the refresh rate as you can change the refresh rate and have the updated driver work, but as soon as the system restarts it seems to revert back.

I did not have more time to work on the clients system to attempt ways to make it stick, if you have the time and want to try you can. The updated drivers do work after taking it out of sleep until making display changes (generally changing resolution), so you can update the drivers and check for a constant fix using the updated drivers, but I tried tons of things while I had access to their computer, the only constant fix I found was the old driver. Also do not install any "Driver Update" programs, or programs that "speed up the pc" as they can cause the issue to come back.

I talked to dell personally over the phone and they recommended going back to windows 7 to resolve the issue, other then that they do not have a fix for it and no estimated time on when it will be fixed (or if it will be)

Wish I could help further.

By the way - Upgrading to Windows 8.1 forces the same thing. However I no longer had the old driver to revert to (Maybe I could have found it, but the original one simply would not work.)

Fix:  Hooked second monitor.   Which defaulted to duplicate display.  Set it as an extended display with the AIO 23" monitor as primary.

Then set the primary monitor to have a 50hz refresh (Windows defaults to 60)  - instantly fixed it and with latest Intel drivers.

Hm that's interesting..

I believe setting the monitor to 50Hz as well but the screen was a bit fuzzy seeing as it wasn't the proper speed..

Dell needs to step it up and resolve this issue.

Have you tried my suggested fix? Reverting to the original driver after installing windows 8?  Don't let windows updates do any graphics driver updates, and don't download any manually.

Yes & No. on the one machine we stripped off the Win 8 and reverted to Win 7 (but lost some of the touch screen benefits). The other one has not been updated. How JBTW do we get updates or is that not an option if we want to keep problem at bay?? Regards Simon

The system was built with Windows 7, that's how it started when you got it did it not? So what features are you missing??

I do not understand what JBTW means, sorry..

As for updates, windows updates are safe to do, just ensure you UNCHECK the Intel Graphics driver update (might be under optional updates) you can right click and hide it as well to avoid future installations of this update.

FYI  In my case, I booted from the install DVD, went to Advanced Troubleshooting (or similar) and performed a Refresh.

Miraculously, the process stopped the flashing, go-nowhere screen at startup.
