Problem with build-in Broadcom network cards on PowerEdge R620

Hello

I have
server – DELL PowerEdge R620 and OS installed on it – Microsoft Windows Server
2008 R2 Datacenter SP1.

After I
have updated firmware for build-in Broadcom network cards (version firmware - A00
7.2.20) I have a problem. The
problem is to after the server is rebooted one of four network interface is not
operational. The state is “Network cable unplugged” and there is entry  “Broadcom
NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet #2: The network link is down.” in System event log. This error happens
only for one (Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet #2) of four build-in network interfaces, other
interfaces are in operational state after the server restart . A strange thing
is to if I manually disable this bad network interface (right button mouse
-> disable) in Windows and after that  manually enable it (right button mouse -> enable)
then the interface looks like OK and in operation state. This bug occurred immediately
after update firmware for build-in Broadcom network cards , I used firmware version
- A00 7.2.20.

And I have
other server DELL PowerEdge R620 with firmware version “A00 7.2.14” on build-in Broadcom network cards  that doesn’t  have such problem.

How can I
resolve that issue ?

Any help
greatly appreciated.

StDenis,

If you swap the switch ports on NICS 1 and 2 does anything change? Also, when you see the error stating the Network Link is Down, is the link light on the nic still on?

Let me know.

Thanks.

Hi Chris. Thank you.

I can't make any physical actions on our server because it is deployed in remote datacenter.

Unfortunately I updated one more server (the same model) and have the same problem with the same symptoms.

StDenis,

We are going to test this. While doing this I would like you to flash back to 7.2.14 for the time being.

I already downgrade firmware to 7.2.14 for one server and result is very strange. Sometimes after restart the server it's OK, sometimes is not (the same problem). I don't understand regularity.

StDenis,

Tested and worked as expected. Have you updated the Driver as well as the firmware? Or just the firmware?

After downgrade firmware I have updated network driver and BACS utility to 17.4.0.9. The result is the same, sometimes after restart the server it's OK, sometimes is not.

I use this network interface (Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet #2) as dedicated for Hyper-V virtual machines. And I have made some customizations in properties this interface. Look at picture.

Any ideas ?

The problem exactly related to Hyper-V that used on this interface. If after restart the server interface works OK then there is entry in System log (in Windows) - "NIC '/DEVICE/{C1CD2DB2-766A-4EF0-B7CB-E93A18A8CBEB}' is now operational". If after restart the server interface is BAD then such entry doesn't exist in System log.
