Migrating from disk to SSD
I got some excellent advise from osprey4 on this subject, Thank you again Osprey4, but have one more question. I ended up buying a Kingston 256gig SSD. The unit comes with migration software that I will be using as I am not real computer savvy on things like this, so the easier the better. When I migrate everything from my disk drive to the SSD, does that clean off the old drive and nothing is there or does it just deplicate it?. I have looked in the Kingston and Acronis sites because Acronis makes the migration software, but niether answer the question. My thought is if something goes wrong with the migration and I can't use the new SSD, can I revert back to the disk drive. I called Alienware and ask if this would void my warranty and they said it wouldn't as these things are made to upgrade, but at the same time the person was trying to sell me software insurance which I have never heard of, so I am being on the cautious side. Thank you very much. That makes me feel much better knowing I have a option if something gets messed up. I don't foresee that happening, but one never knows. Thanks again.

Cloning software normally leaves your original drive alone, which is a good thing. Some cloning apps give you a choice, however, to either leave the old (original) partition intact or to zero it out leaving a blank partition. You will need to examine the directions for use carefully, or you might need to do as I did and scan the setup screen very carefully for all the options.
