new Toshiba, windows 8 lap top won't work with dell printer
My new Toshiba windows 8 laptop, won't work with the driver I have downloaded for my Dell 964 printer. Any ideas please as to how I get the printer to work? I can see the zip file has downloaded but it won't work. It recognises a problem has been identified but is unable to detect why it won't work. Many Thanks,

Someone posted that the Vista drivers in the compatibility mode work.
First run Delete Print Jobs to remove any stuck print job in the queue.
Disconnect the printer.
Press the Windows and x keys at the same time, programs and features, Dell 964 printer, uninstall.
Restart your computer. Make sure the printer is removed. Manual Printer Driver Removal
Download the Vista 32-bit drivers for Windows 8 32-bit or the Vista 64-bit drivers for Windows 8 64-bit. Install the Vista drivers in the Vista Compatibility mode You'll get a message, the printer is not connected. Connect the printer at this time(powered on).

Remember virus programs an dfirewalls will block communications. If you did not install a virus program, then Windows Defender will be the default virus program. Try the isntrucitons for Allow Printer past Microsoft Essentials as they should be similar.
