Dell Inspiron Mini 1012 Bluetooth not showing up on operating system!

Hi, I have recently purchased this net-book of a friend of mine and i had restored it to the factory settings, but the Bluetooth driver does not show up anywhere on the computer, Device manager, start menu, nothing. But if i access the BIOS, it says that the internal Bluetooth is enabled, I have tried to install the driver from the website using the Dell Service Tag but it says I need to enable the Bluetooth using the Fn+F2 option but only comes up with "Enable Wireless LAN" and no other options so won't let me proceed with installation.

Any ideas what to do?

**Operating system was originally Windows 7 Starter 32-Bit but has been Anytime upgraded to Professional 32-Bit

Hi Jay_1496,

Thank you for the response.

Your system is built with the 'Dell wireless 1397 adapter'. This is a '802.11b/g single band card'; and supports 'Bluetooth Co-existence'. However, the notebook also needs an additional 'Bluetooth Adapter' to enable the 'Bluetooth capability'. Your notebook was not built with the  'Dell Wireless 365 2.1 Bluetooth Adapter' when shipped from the factory. This card comes as an optional internal Bluetooth daughter card. You haven't been able to install and use 'Bluetooth' as it is not 'Bluetooth capable'.

Do reply if you've any further queries; glad to assist.

Hi Jay_1496,

Good, you confirmed that the 'Bluetooth adapter' enabled in the BIOS. It is likely that the adapter is disabled; therefore not reflecting in 'Device Manager'. Please use only 'F2 key' to see if it shows up. You may track the change in its status by the 'Wireless Radio' signal that popups in the bottom right corner of the screen. Also keep the system sound on; may produce a little sound indicating the change in status.

You may also recheck the adapter status in 'Device Manager'. It may either be listed under 'Bluetooth'; or under 'Network Adapters' category. Expand the 'Network Adapters' category to see if 'Dell Bluetooth 365 wireless card' is also seen. If yes, you've enabled it and is ready for use. Please check if any exclamation /question mark is observed besides the 'device'. If yes, try updating its driver from the following link: http://dell.to/WC3tkn (Download the given file and follow the onscreen instructions to finish installation).

If you face any issues, you may manage the 'Bluetooth functionality' using the 'Windows Mobility Center' (Click Start icon > Type 'Mobility Center' (without quotations) in 'Start Search box' > Tap 'Enter'). Please refer to the image below:

Hope this helps. Do reply with the findings; would be glad to assist.

I have checked to see if there are any 'Bluetooth devices' in the Device Manager but there is nothing there only this:

And if I press F2 no option for Bluetooth comes up only for 'Wireless LAN'

And when i tried to download the driver using the link you provided this message comes up and I couldn't proceed with the installation

And nothing came up in the Mobility center also

Hi Jay_1496,

Thank you for the response.

The 'Bluetooth' is enabled in 'BIOS' but not showing up in 'Device Manager'. Please refer to this web article to check for any hidden devices: http://bit.ly/WV9crd

If the card is still not detected, you may also try running this patch: http://dell.to/WvXDq8
Though it is not designed to work with the notebook, but has proved useful with another systems in a similar situation; worth a shot. Please download and install the file by following the on-screen instructions.

Hi,

I have tried the Device Manager link but still nothing had come up for 'Bluetooth' and when I had run the patch, a Prompt window flashed up saying 'No capable device found'.

Hi Jay_1496,

Thank you for the reply.

It appears that 'Windows installer' could not detect the 'Bluetooth adapter'. Please try to update BIOS and see if that helps:
- Click http://dell.to/13OnM5Z > Download the file and follow through with the on-screen instructions to finish installation

Note: Make sure the ac adapter is connected and the battery is charged 10% or above to update the BIOS. Also, disconnect all the external peripherals before updating the BIOS. All the programs should be closed and documents saved.

Hope this helps. Do reply with the findings.

I have already updated the BIOS before trying to install the driver.

Hi Jay_1496,

Thank you for the reply.

Please capture and share the 'original system configuration'; need to check the status of 'Bluetooth Adapter' installed in the system:
- Click http://dell.to/WDkf85 > Enter 'System Service Tag' > Click 'Submit'

Do reply with the findings; will take it forward from there.
