Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 problems
I have an XPS L502x laptop with an Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 wireless card with the latest driver 15.6.0.0. For the past couple of weeks the strength of the signal as measured by the Intel proset tools goes from excellent to poor in the space of 60 seconds, back and forth. It seems to do this on all channels from 1 to 13. It definitely is affecting Internet performance. I have the security set at WPA-Personal in an attempt to try and stabilise the network. I have also been using iSSIDer to try and find the best channel since there are about 10 other wireless networks from other houses around me. I have a D-Link 645 router which is admittedly about 10 metres and 2 or 3 walls away. However, until a fortnight ago, the network was dead stable showing a strong signal (4 or 5 bars (-50). Now it is all over the place. Could it be a damaged card?

Hi Fred,
The issue could be due to driver or the card settings. I suggest you to update the wireless card drivers by selecting the version of Windows, after punching in the Service Tag on the following link:

You may also change the Roaming Aggressiveness settings of the card and for information on this please visit the link provided below:

Hi Rajath
Thanks for your answer. I have the latest wireless card drivers installed according to the Intel website. The roaming aggressiveness is set at medium. I am not sure that what is happening has to do with the issues talked about at the Intel site. I connect ok to my wireless system, but the connection is very variable. Should I set the aggressiveness higher? Medium high?

Hi Fred,
Thank you for your reply and for providing an update on the status. I suggest you to set the Roaming Aggressiveness to Medium or Low, as there are about 10 networks in the surroundings.
Please let me know about the status.

Yes, that seems to have helped. I have set the wireless adapter at medium-low and it seems much more stable.
