Inspirion 545s will not power up

4 year old 545S downloaded Microsoft update and shut down.  Now it will not power up.  The green power supply light and the amber motherboard light and on.  When pressing the on button, nothing happens.  From other "help" sites, I tried unplugging, pressing power button for a minute, plugged back in - no changed.  Popped out cmos battery and replaced, didn't work.

As the power button is not lite and the fan does not work, sounds like a power supply issue.

The LED on the motherboard is the 'Stand By Power Light' [aka 'flea power'], indicates the motherboard has +5VFP power is reaching it and not an indication that the power supply has not failed, or has issues.

Try installing a 'known' working power supply and see if this makes a difference.

The 545s, supports a standard TFX power supply, with four SATA power connectors.

There are 300w TFX PSU's available, HERE.

There is no power - nothing gets to the monitor or the hard drive.  The fan doesn't spin either.  With the green light on the power supply and amber on the motherboard, would that indicate the power supply is ok?

Hi Kyle Tingle,

Do you see the Dell logo when you power on the computer? Is there any error message on the screen? What is the status of the monitor power light? What is the status of the power button light (Solid White, Solid Amber, Blinking Amber etc?)?

It was the power supply - and the thin style  ones were not cheap :-(
