Looking for a Fanless or run quiet Layer 3 Gigabit Switch
Trust me I have looked and had to return switch upon switches for not having what what i want.
Like the topic says, I am looking for a layer 3 switch that is at least 24 - 48 ports that is has gigabit on all ports. Don't care if it is POE or not. Don't care if it has SFP or not. Bottom line, it has to be a quiet switch comes or does not come with built-in cooling fan.
Is this just a pipe dream of mine or is Dell just like other vendors out there?

The only fan less switch i have found are less than 24 ports. For example the 2808 is a fan less switch. I think finding switch with 24+ ports and no fans will be difficult.

Thanks. I saw the 2808. Do you know of any with fan(s) that is probably the most quiet?

I was not able to find any documentation stating fan noise levels, but here are some different models of switches with the number of fans they have. I would presume that the less fans the less noise. But I could be wrong about that. Rack mount switches do not tend to have a priority of low noise level when being designed, as they usually end up in a server room.

2848, 3 fans
3524/48, 2 fans
3524/48P, 5 fans
6224, 3 fans
6248, 4 fans
8024/48, 3 fans
8124/48, 2 fans
I know this is not the exact information you are looking for, but hopefully it helps.

Yeah, might be more in the pipe dream category. I have full L3 Cisco/Linksys SG300-20 for my home lab for the same criteria you gave (L3, and no fans). That was really the only one I could find at the time. And most with fans will be disappointingly loud. Just a byproduct of throwing in a 1/2" fan and trying to move x amount of air.
Please share if you eventually find one.

Thanks for the share...I'll have to check it out. I heard Juniper offers good layer 3 gigabit switches that's fan-less. HP had a good one but it was 10/100...come on Dell! Its 2013 already :)

I have the HPE 1920S 24G switch that it is Layer 2 and Layer 3, fanless and 25cm depth.
