USB 3.0's not working properly on Dell Inspiron N5110

Hello!

My Inspiron N5110 is a little over two years old. For maybe the past 8 months, my USB 3.0's haven't been working properly. Device Manager will show a caution symbol next to the Renesas Electronics USB 3.0 Host Controller, and give a Code 10: Device Unable to Start error message under properties. While my 3.0s are in this state, they provide power to any device plugged into them; for example my headphones and cooling pad, but are unable to transfer any data for things like a wireless mouse.

I've updated my chipset drivers, my USB drivers, and my BIOS with the official recommended drivers from the Dell support site (using my service tag to find the ones for my computer if I may add). Sometimes, reinstalling the Renesas Host Controller will temporarily fix the issue until I reboot, or put my computer to sleep. After it breaks again; sometimes rebooting and going into my BIOS and changing a USB setting will fix the issue again until I reboot; but this stopped working after I once again reinstalled the Host Control drivers.

Here is a pastebin of my laptop specs[2] , obtained through the Win 7 system info program. If anyone could give advice on fixing this, which has gotten very annoying, then I'd be most grateful.

Ps: I forgot to clarify that there was not an event which triggered my 3.0s to cease working correctly; to my knowledge. One day about 8 months ago they just up and stopped working right.

Pss: If anyone wants it, this is my laptop's Dell Service Tag:

Hello! Upon downloading the driver and having the installer unzip it; no secondary installer popped up so I rebooted my laptop. When I logged back in, I got a notification balloon saying that it was installing the USB Host Controller Driver, but it eventually failed saying 'no driver found'. When I went to C://Dell>Drivers>R309746, and ran the setup.exe in the folder; it says there 'is a later version of Renesas USB Host Controller already installed'. My Device Manager now looks like this: http://i.imgur.com/ZqsmPhr.png

Hi KyalMeister,

Dell Inspiron 15R N5110 comes with ‘Wistron USB 3.0 Host Controller Driver’ . I would suggest you to reinstall the USB 3.0 driver using the link below.

Please let me know if this helps.

Hi KyalMeister,

As the system is installed with Renesas USB Host Controller driver, which is incompatible driver for the USB 3.0 slots on the system. This would have corrupted the operating system. I would advise you to restore the OS to factory state or manual operating system reinstallation. Please follow the steps mentioned below for performing the pc restore on a Windows 7 computer.

1. Back up all the data from the computer before proceeding to next steps.

2. Unplug all the devices including your printer, camera and memory stick.

3. Restart the computer.

4. Press the "F8" key repeatedly as soon as you see the Dell logo. Do not stop until you see the Advanced Boot Options screen.

5. Press the down arrow and choose "Repair your computer." Hit "Enter."

6. Select the keyboard layout "US" from the drop-down menu and click "OK."

7. Log into your account as an administrator. Type in your password. Click "OK."

8. Click "Dell Factory Image Restore" at the bottom of the options.

9.  Click "Next" in the window that opens.

10. Click to check the box next to "Yes, reformat hard drive and restore system software to factory condition" to confirm and click "Next." This will generate an operation that will take about 45 minutes to complete. Click "Finish" when the process is complete to restart your computer.

Jesus; we're going all out scorched earth policy on this. I guess it can't be helped if I screwed up the drivers. So if I do as you instructed; and download the driver specifically listed under my support tag, then it'll work? I guess it's worth a shot, will report back soon with results. Thanks again for your help; this issues been bugging me for a long time.
