Laptop abrupt shutdown while recording using Dell Webcam Central
Hi all,
I have a serious problem here. I can use all the help you can offer. I was recording on my Studio 1558 using the webcam and its power went down abruptly within 1 sec. Now, I can see the file (2.9GB) but it cannot be opened using anything available out there (Media Player, VLC, WMP) etc. Can anyone help me fix the file. It is very important.
I am getting the error" unknown file format"
Thank you.

Sounds like the file was corrupted when the system shut down. You can try one of the many video file repair tools on the internet.
This is a shareware tool which has good reviews. It's free to download and is a 10 day trial. It'll repair one video file at a time.

This is a freeware tool...I can't verify how good it is though

Hello Amit Kappor,
In addition to what Paul has said, you may also try playing the file in a different computer. Copy the file on a flash drive and try playing it on another computer. This would prove the functionality of the video file.
Please write back your findings.

Hi Amit Kapoor,
As Allan D suggested you can try to open the file in a different computer, May be it will help you. If you are not getting any proper result after this process, then you can go for “Remo repair AVI utility”. It is an easy operated software to repair video files.
