Websites not opening, but other internet applications such as skype, viber, messengers works fine

Hi Guys,

This is Nilesh, I really need help in this matter.

Since last week, its been observed on my Dell Inspiron 3521 i5 with 750 HDD, 4GB RAM(Service Tag# ), that inspite of using 10MBPS ethernet cable speed, the website doesn't open unless I restart the computer every time but other application, like skype video calling, viber works extremely great, files from torrent are also being downloaded great at a great speed.

The actions I have performed, so far -

1) The connection on the router - OK

2) Ethernet Cable RJ45 Connector was broken - Fixed.

3) Firewall Setting - ON (as default)

4) I restored the system as well.

5) Avast Anti-virus is installed on my PC, and its 24/7 ON and I manually also scanned my computer, and no threats found there as well.

6) My system is up-to-date, as I have downloaded couple of Dell software update applications on my 3521. So, it automatically updates new releases, and automatically restarts computer.

7) I have tried connecting my laptop directly with the cable coming from the wall socket too, still same problem.

Inspite of doing all this, the only problem Im' experiencing is, unable to open the website. I can open website but only when I restart my laptop, and that too for just 10 or 15 or 20 or 30 minutes at max. After that, again website issue arises. I mean, the websites stop opening after 20-30 mins.

Some of my friends, colleagues are suggesting me to get the laptop formated.

So, my request here is, should I really format my C drive? If no need, is there any other alternatives, please please please share.(but, before that, please read all the actions that I have performed on my 3521 so far to avoid duplication)

If other than all the actions above, and if I need to format my C drive, do let me know the steps for formating PC which I think will clean up the PC and start from the scratch. So, far I have taken the backup of my C drive on D drive.

I'd really appreciate your help in this matter, as its so frustrating. I hope you can understand my situation here.

What an over helming satisfaction for your accurate support.

I followed the steps that you told me, and I was able to successfully download chrome as well as mozilla firefox finally, along with the malware anti application the free one that you told me... and did a quick scan per your suggestion. And, guess what, there were about 136 defects which I removed from the system. (BDW, the scanned defects had some registeies too, but not sure, if I did it correct as I removed them, could you please explain me basically what it is, is it a virus or what, and how does that harm my computer? Just for my tech knowledge.)

Now, my system is running like a butter on a bread. You simply need a raise!!!!

Just about all of those were PUPs. Those are potentially unwanted programs. That means they may or may not be something you intentionally installed and use. They are not necessarily malware infections. Notice the word "optional" in there. You, however, deleted them, so they are gone. If you are happy with the way the computer is running, great. Otherwise, as Rick mentioned, you may want to go for a review at SpywareHammer. Please note that you must remove P2P's and torrents before they will handle a cleanup.

Nilesh,

Start, control panel, internet options, connections, LAN settings, make sure Automatically detect settings is checked.

Places to look to see if your Connection is enabled

Near the bottom, try resetting your winsock catalog, then restart your computer.

Try downloading and installing Malwarebytes Anti-Malware FREE edition(no trial). Update it and do a quick scan. If it finds anything, remove anything it finds and post the log back here.

Hi Nilesh,

It is too bad this topic was not moved before you ran MBAM. Sometimes "shooting in the dark" by running a scan and removal like that without knowing what type of infection you are dealing with can make matters worse. Not everything Malwarebytes finds is an infection. Depending on your preferences, you may not need to remove all the PUPs. Please post your log from Malwarebytes. It can be found at the Logs tab when you open Malwarebytes. Open the log. Copy and paste the text into your reply.

So what do you suggest, in future if I happened to come across the same situation, and if I had to run Malware bytes again and what all logs do I need to remove from it?

As my computer after removing those PUPs, is running perfectly fine.

I did not see any issues for the net now.

If you are unsure about deleting any of the optional applications listed in the entries, don't have MBAM fix them until you can confirm that you do not need them. You have two options: 1. Research them yourself online. 2. Get free advice from a forum such as this, or get a more thorough analysis at a site like SpywareHammer, Bleeping Computer, or SpywareInfo Forums. You could even post at Malwarebytes' own forum.
