Blank screen

Installed latest updates for windows 8.1 and on booting up screen goes blank when windows logo should appear, staying that way. Is there any way to turn computer back before installation without use of screen. Set up and boot options are available as screen goes blank only when windows should be running, even complete reset would be ok as the few programs installed are available.

Hi Bigian_Scotland,

Switch ON the system and switch OFF the system 3 to 4 times when the Dell logo appears. This will make the system to go into ‘Windows 8.1 Advanced Startup Options’ screen. Please select Troubleshoot option and choose the REFRESH option so that it refreshes the windows operating system.

Also, I would suggest that you run the diagnostics on the computer by following the steps mentioned in the video below and check if there is any issue with the hardware on your system.

Please let me know the findings.

Thanks this worked perfectly, had no info or programs in computer that would cause concern as laptop is used for viewing pictures taken when I'm out and about (camera Lcd can not give overall quality). As you suggested ran diagnostics and hard drive was full of errors..... now all good and smiling :) Again thanks for invaluable advice.
