Computer wake up
Computer wake up
Not sure if this is the right forum to ask this question since it is not really regarding PocketCloud. But I don’t know where else to ask.
An essential part of being able to remotely control my desktop PC is the ability to wake it up from sleep state. I played around a little bit with some android apps to accomplish this, with mixed results. Is there a fail save way to do this? I read somewhere (forgot where) that it is actually possible to remotely wake up a computer from hibernate? This is for me an essential part of being able to use PocketCloud. I can’t (will not) leave my computer running all the time when I’m on a business trip or vacation.

Currently pocket cloud does not support wake on wan/lan. But this is a excellent feature to have and will surely consider this in our future road map.

RDP or VNC allow windows login skip? WOL BUMP!!!!
First off thanks for FREE PocketCloud but I have a BUMP to WOL options and issues with the current setup of PocketCloud that maybe this forum can assist me with.
I have a WOL app working from my phone, which is great since it seems PocketCloud wont work until the PC is on but now I am stuck with this login/password WALL preventing the PC from booting all the way to the desktop, therefore not booting the PocketCloud Companion Software and connecting with Google.
It is useless to have a remote access program to me if the PC must remain ON whenever I leave to go somewhere. Ideally I would like to WOL my OFF PC and have remote access. Currently this is not happening. Again I am successfully using Google Auto Discovery once the PC is already on.
PocketCloud works great once it is "connected" via the companion software with Google login but is there a work around or an option I am not using that would be better? RDP or VNC connection setup help? A toggle to voluntarily Disable windows Login/Password options?
Again WOL works so computer is on at Login screen but phone wont connect via PocketCloud until PC is Logged into windows.

This progam is excellent, just need wake and its perfect.

An app I use is called 'WOL wake on lan wan'. It works without a doubt. The only thing you have to do is setup in device manager for the network card the last 'tab' I believe is called advanced, you can enable wake from sleep. You may also need to enable wake on wol packet in bios also. Just some advice. Hope it helps.

So after being so frustrated earlier today and posting my rant above I took a break and then later on went back to tinkering... I found a workaround for PocketCloud with WOL!!! I am able to remote shutdown also with the use of PocketCloud for android, TightVNC, and WOL wake on lan wan found in android market. I do have the PocketCloud PC companion software installed on the PC but I dont know how much it is doing, if anything at all.
Its is easy to setup the process if you take the time to learn the programs. I do loose my desktop wallpaper on my phone, which can be reset while on my android device by right clicking the page/properties/desktop/click OK, but without it also saves bandwidth so it doesn't bother me. Once I log off the desktop wallpaper returns on my desktop so its really automatic.
By using a VNC connection the Login/Password for windows can be setup to be skipped which allows the desktop to load and the BACKGROUND PROGRAMS to BOOT!!!!! TightVNC loads up and then PocketCloud on my phone can run my desktop remotely by selecting the manual connection programed for my PC. This also allows for the android device to shutdown the PC instead of just logging off like with the PocketCloud setup only. Using TightVNC I am able to shut down my PC like I would if I was right in front of it.
I just got on this idea earlier today so I am sure that most of us can do it.
One Hint I can give fellow android XP user is:
START MENU/RUN/then type CMD in the window, click OK ("run" is at the bottom right by a angled rectangle shaped icon in the start menu)
Once the command prompt window is open first thing to type is "ipconfig/all" then press enter
This will give you a long list of great info like your IP & MAC addresses that you will need to input into Pocketcloud and WOL on your phone and into TightVNC on your PC
exit out of the window once you have the info
I am not an IT guy and I did nothing extra with my routers plus if it counts I have a silly dual router setup. I have a Wii on one wifi, a PS3 on another wifi, two laptops that bounce around the house depending on which signal is closer and my LAN PC. It was a headache I had in setup of the WiMAX since the modem frequency had some router interference. Solution was physical distance which lead me to Two WLAN signals and Two LAN signals (lots of IPs and some ethernet cable) running off of a WiMAX modem(not Cable or DSL)and this PocketCloud/Android project still works great!
All the other instructions/support can be found typing the software name or process into a search engine.
