Hi, i'm new on the forum. I've some questions about the Wyse S10.
I have to implement Thin Clients Architecture, for now i have to check all the specifications between the different components to be sure it will be compatible. I'm not sure if we'll use our Terminal Server 2003 licenses to do it or if i'll have to take a Windows Server 2008 license.
1) If i buy the Wyse S10 in a few days, what will be the version of the WTOS ? And the RDP protocol will be the 7 ?
2) Will be this version compatible with both Windows Server 2003 R2 and Windows Server 2008 R2 ? Because i heard that if you upgrade Wyse S10 with the latest firmware, you will not be able to downgrade...So if i buy a S10 and then it's not compatible with the Windows 2003 Server...not cool!
Can a Wyse S10 with latest firwmware (and so RDP 7) connect to a Terminal Server 2003 ? (For 2008 i'm sure but not for 2003)
3) There are 4 usb ports on the Wyse S10, i will use 2 ports for Mouse/Keyboard but we also have a Bar Code Reader, will it be automatically detected ? Or have i to do something special for having it working ?

Thanks for your rapid answer.
Finally, because of the ressources we probably have to put Win2K3 instead of Win2K8.
So is it recommended again to put the Licensing method by user ? or can we put it by device too ? Because in this case the thin clients will be put into a environment where 20-30 workers use the computer just to "point" some articles with a codebar scanner. And we have some computers that do this job.

WTOS 7 has RDP version 7. Prior versions have RDP version 5.
WTOS can connect to Server 2003 and Server 2008 servers, *but* from my experimentation, you must configure Server 2008 servers to "per user" licensing. If you try "per device", the S-10 will work for a couple of days, then just refuse to connect. Also, if you are using Server 2008 terminal server broker, the S-10s behave a bit oddly when they first connect.
The version of RDP on WTOS (prior to 7) is fairly network inefficient. On a LAN you should have no problems, but running many over a T1 might be a problem. This issue alone forced us to go with Citrix instead of RDP.
If your bar code scanners emulate USB keyboards it should work. Otherwise, no. The S-10 only handles specific USB devices (keyboard, mouse, disk, printer).

The latest version of WTOS for the S-10 is 7. However, I doubt that any S-10s will ever ship with 7 becaise 7 is too big to fit in the device's NVRAM. To upgrade an S-10 to 7, you flash it with a special network boot loader. This bootloader loads WTOS 7 into RAM from an FTP server every time you boot the S-10. I don't know if Wyse will give you the upgrade, or if they will want you to purchase support to get it.
