Dual Monitors (internal speakers) only 1 of the 2 speakers has audio

I have two monitors (one VGA and one HDMI ) to the CPU (new XPS 8700), but sound only comes out of the monitor speaker with the HDMI connection.  The other speaker does work and has been tested with a 3.5MM speaker cable.

The video card is NVIDA GTX 745.  In the audio set-up control panel from the NVIDIA, I disabled audio from the HDMI thinking that I could then run 3.5MM cable on a Y splitter to the audio out port and by-pass the HDMI cable.  I tried every port and either experienced no sound or sound in one or the other speaker.

I realize these speakers are not the best and I am fine with them.  I like the clean clutter desktop look.  

Can anyone help me to get both of these monitor speakers working?
