Inspiron 15 5558 - very slow

Hi,

I recently bought a the 5558, roughly six or eight weeks ago; I have been very disappointed with the performance since day one. I do not use it often at the moment, and only for browsing and Office.

I've tried all the 'tips' that I found through Google searches, plus Advanced Systemcare 8 to defrag and optimise, plus the Dell System Detect (No issues).

Programs often take a long time to load, if at all, especially Chrome. Downloads are painfully slow (e.g. 15 minutes for a 70kb .doc file) despite speedcheck showing a 4.9MBps rate. Chrome and Firefox both frequently stall and a popup offers me to 'kill' or 'wait' for the page. Also when opening file explorer, it can take fully 5 minutes to 'find' anything - even in near-empty folders.

Any other ideas? Has anyone else had any similar issues?

The laptop did come preloaded with Windows 10 and I double checked the minimum requirements, there really shouldn't be any issues.

Thanks for any replies

Hi,

Thank you for writing to us!

This could be a hardware issue we would suggest to run complete diagnostics to check if there are any issues .

Kindly also private message the service tag of the system.

Thanks

Robin

Hi Robin,

Thanks for the response. Not sure how to Private message, can you message me and I'll reply with the service tag? or is it safe to post here?

I ran the Dell Support quick diagnostics test and everything came back ''passed'', I will try a PSA Diagnostics test now.

Kindly confirm the PSA results.

You may also want to check the HDD activity in the task manager (if in other words the HDD utilisation is constantly 100%).

I have the same issue. Most noticeable at boot up. Ran the diagnostics test and all passed. This is our second Inspiron 15. My wife has a 15z Ultrabook and does not run slow. When I order the 5558 I thought I was getting something similar, but not the case. Is there anyway of increasing the boot up speed on this system?

I'm also experiencing an extremely slow boot time on my 5558 laptop. (Bought - Sept 2015 preloaded with Win10). Undertaken tests and all passed too.

I have a 6 year old Dell (significantly lower spec), running Win10, and boots in about 1/5 of the time!

Can you advise where problem is?

Same problem. Just give us a solution please! don't waste more and more of our time doing infinite tests.

Even I'm facing same issue. I bought this laptop in July 2015. I upgraded my OS to windows but still system is very slow. I tried all the performance improvement tips, tried diagnostic tests. I can't find the root cause of it.

I have a 5558 that is plagued by this issue as well.  I am staggered that its now May 2016 and since this problem was raised in Oct'/Nov' 2015 Dell has seemingly done absolutely nothing to address the appallingly slow time it takes to boot-up this laptop.  Yep, since then it has issued a number of updates for this laptop (including an updated BIOS)  -  I've installed them all but the slow boot-up issue still persists.  If this is indicative of the quality of after sales service it feels is acceptable I for one will never  buy another Dell PC again!

I have had the same issue from day one. I literally turned on and it has been painfully slow ever since. I tried every test available. I had a Dell that was 7 years old that was way faster than this. I wouldn't get another one after this experience.
