XPS8300 Continuous power cycle on start
I am running the Dell XPS8300 on Win 10. Occasionally when I first start up or during a period of hibernation the computer will go into an unending cycle of fan ON and after 2-secs OFF. This repeats continuously until I hold the power button down for 10-secs and then disconnect the power cord for 30-secs. If I then hold the power button down for a second or so until the activity light illuminates then release everything boots perfectly. During sleep or hibernation the same thing occasionally happens and the only way to recover is to hold down the.n power button for 10-secs and disconnect the power cord. What's going on and can it be fixed by someone technically challenged :-)?

XPS 8300 is not tested for Windows 10, but you can try these steps, it may or may not work.
Use the standard Start Menu > Power > Shutdown, you may think your computer is totally shut down, but it is not. Windows 10 can perform various maintenance functions while your computer is in this supposed "shutdown state". If your laptop is off AC power during this period, you will definitely notice a drain in the battery. One option you can use is to set up a desktop shortcut for a full shutdown. It should contain the following:
shutdown /s /t 0
That is "shutdown" space "/s" space "/t" space "0" [zero]. The zero indicates the number of seconds to wait before shutdown.
From what I understand, when you click on any of the shutdown links, the computer goes into what is known as a "hybrid" shutdown, not a full shutdown. It saves information from your current login and allows you to start up faster the next time you turn on your computer (known as "fast startup"). The other complication is the "automatic maintenance" that Windows 10 has set up. This has an option to wake up your computer to perform this maintenance. The other option would be to shut off "fast startup". This should then allow a full shutdown.
The steps are provided by one of Dell users on forum, it worked for few though.

Hi,
I'm with same issue and I think is not about OS
I already tried with W7 and W10
I have already tried to update the BIOS in versions A11 and A16
I've also tried switching the power supply and nothing
I tried BIOS power management options like C State among others
I did a visual check and there are no damaged components or capacitors stuffed
My computer is a T5500, but I am responding in this post as it was the one that best described the problem, but in other web searches, I realized that this problem hits several Dell models
I would be grateful if this problem was resolved, I really like this computer (and I do not have the money to invest in another one at the moment) and I have always chosen Dell for its technical support efficiency, but unfortunately I do not have a support plan and honestly I do not want to discard a great computer without a plausible answer about what happens to it
