Optiplex 3040 PCI express slots does not work

I have a new optiplex 3040 and tried to plug a new logilink 2-port PCI-Express ethernet card to mainbord. But each PCIE slots does not work. From bios menu all of them are shown, but in windows10 does not appear.

Hi enbegmsoft,

Thanks for posting.

The motherboard  has three black PCIe x1 slots. The PCIe slots should be fine, if your card is this one: http://dell.to/2h6XoAX, then it is not compatible with Windows 10.

PCI-E version 1.0 cards do not and will not work in PCI-E version 2.1 or 3.0 slots.

The slots speed is too fast and they do not downclock the slots to accomodate older cards.

The other issue is that 64 bit windows 10 requires WHQL certified drivers or they will not load.   Hardware that does not have a certificate in bios will also not load unless secure boot is turned off and legacy CSM is turned ON.

Are you trying to use more than 1 card at a time?

Yes, right. first one is onboard, second one TPlink 3468, tirdh and fourth are logilink 2-port PCI.

Its not working because the chipset doesn't support card after card after card installed in every slot.

Its not going to work either.  Windows doesn't like multiple Network stacks on PCI-E there isn't the bus bandwidth available.

This is also why Servers use X4 or X8 nics with 4 ports or more with a single driver.  What you are doing has nothing to do with dell and is not going to work at all in anyone's system.  Multi nic cards use a PCI-E to PCI-E bridge so that 4 nics occupy a single slot. You don't get virtualized and iSCSI Unified Network and SERVER OS support on an Optiplex Desktop.  You might get away with it on a Dell precision workstation but not on the system you chose.

Fitting into the slots for a server application does not mean working or supported configuration.

Your "application" is not the OS or configuration that is supported by dell.

The other note is that you have a nic in the X16 blue video card slot.

This also is not supported.

2 PCIe x1 Expansion Slot (SLOT3)
3 PCIe x16 Expansion Slot (SLOT2)
PCIe x1 Expansion Slot (SLOT1)

None of the answers you said before are consistent! Are you sure you have information about the subject?

That is a Optiplex 3020 MT main board, it is into the previous image.

The Bandwith issue and ability to add card after card after card is consistent.  Your issue is not a dell issue and is not supported.

There is a reason why they make 2 and 4 and 8 port nic cards.

Dear speedStep, you insist on not understanding, I ran these pieces all together on another computer on the 3020 series at the same time. Problem is in the 3040 series. You are telling me that the problem is not dell origin, then how can I run it on another computer? Also slot4 does not work at all.  If you can not use the slots on the motherboard at the same time, why integrate?

Thank you.
