PowerEdge T610 Memory/CPU upgrade

We currently have 12gb and are looking to double this, the system shows memory as Unregistered/Unbuffered as in screenshot here  imgrpost.com/.../oWN6l

But here using the crucual scanner uk.crucial.com/.../CA74BBF631D926C3

they all say Registered, can I add the new with the old or will the whole lot need to be replaced?

Also I want to add and extra CPU as it has one empty socket, with this be ok?

"PowerEdge T610 Technical Guide" contains "Chapert 7 Memory" which describes memoy system within your server and thus would be worth a read. Specifically Chapter 7.2.2 DIMM population rules states RDIMMS and UDIMMS can not be mixed.

"Dell PowerEdge T610 Systems Hardware Owner's Manual" also contains "Chapter System Memory" on page 123 under "Installing Ssytem Components". It again states RDIMMS and UDIMMS can not be mixed.

So it's a case of RT?M :emotion-5:

As for upgrading CPU, so the two CPU sockets are populated, both CPU's must be of the same type and stepping code. The ebay one you linked to is an Xeon E5620 SLBV4 which must match the existing CPU exactly for both to function within the server.

You may need to remove the existing heatsink and clean thermal paste from heatsink and CPU so you can verify what's written on the CPU top, re-apply quality thermal paste and re-install the heatsink. Alternatively you could use CPUID application to check such info. It's your call whether you want to apply new thermal paste or not but my view is if it aint broken...

Make sure you buy an appropriate matching CPU and T610 heatsink and you should be good to go :emotion-5:

I know it's been a while but i going ahead with this now, so as for the CPU can I use any that match the specs "60HT4 E5620, 2.4/5.86, 12M, XWM, B1" or do they have to be made for a "Server" specifically? as most seem to be pulled from PC's and 2010 Mac models.

This is what CPUID gave,
