Dell XPS with Docking Station and LG Ultra Wide Monitor...
I have a new LG ultra wide monitor that has support for HDMI and DisplayPort that I cannot seem to get working. I have tried connecting the displayport cable to the dock and montior and I do not get a signal at all. I have also tried the HDMI connection but I cannot get the resolution to the recommended 2560 x1080. Any direction would be very helpful/.

DisplayLink can support that resolution, but the D1000 is a very old dock that uses a very old DisplayLink chipset, and that particular chipset probably doesn't. However, even with a newer version of DisplayLink such as would be found in the D6000 dock, DisplayLink would give you an inferior experience at that resolution anyway if you ever did things like gaming or full-screen video. You really want your display to be directly controlled by the GPU. So, considering that you have a 9550 that has a Thunderbolt 3 port, you have two options:
- Buy a USB-C to DisplayPort adapter, which would tap into the native GPU DisplayPort output wired to that port.
- If you want to have everything connected to a dock, buy either a WD15 or TB16 dock. Either one would allow the attached display(s) to be driven directly by your GPU rather than through DisplayLink, and unlike your D1000, these docks can additionally charge your system via their USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 cable, so you'd have a true single-cable solution. The WD15 allows a single display of that resolution (or dual 1080p), and the TB16 allows up to dual 4K displays or three 2560x1600 displays. Since you have an XPS 15 9550, with the WD15 you'd need the 180W adapter version and with the TB16 you'd need the 240W adapter version.

I have a XPS 15 9550 and the docking station is a D1000 model. I have been able to plug the HDMI into the laptop directly but the docking station does not want to support the higher resolution when its plugged in. I have a feeling that the DisplayLink drivers do not support that resolution or something.

Thank you very much, I will likely just get a new docking station as I like the cleaner look and feel of a single cable option!

You're very welcome! Just to make sure you have a smooth experience with the WD15 or TB16, you'll want to make sure you install/update certain firmware and software. These will be available on the support.dell.com Drivers page for your system, although annoyingly if the OS selected by default is the one you want, you have to choose another OS and then switch BACK to the OS you actually wanted in order to display any downloads underneath. Install them in this specific order:
- System BIOS
- Thunderbolt controller driver (aka Thunderbolt software)
- Thunderbolt 3 firmware
- ASMedia USB Host Controller Driver (TB16 only)
- Realtek USB GBE Ethernet
- Realtek USB Audio
