Microsoft Office 2013 Lost

You would know if you paid for it, because Microsoft Office is an option and usually costs an extra $100.

What happens when you click Activate?

Look at your packing slip.

This laptop was given to me by a relative from the States. I checked in the System configuration for the laptop.

When i click activate it tells me to "Enter your product key"

"Your product key is 25 characters and is typically found in your product packaging."

Your sentence is too vague.. I need more to start with. This is my first laptop in a long time (last one came with XP). I need at least a picture of what to get and maybe some information about what it is, how it looks like. So i can explain it to them over the phone....

Your relative is going to have to go find that product key.

A new system would have come with Office 365 or Office 2016.  If you purchased a license for it with the system, see here to activate:

If you didn't purchase a license, the system came with only a trial version of Office and you'll need to purchase either a license or a subscription.

The original owner has the product key on a cardboard paper.

It came with the laptop all the paperwork.

Maybe they threw it away because they didn't know what it was.

Then you are out of luck.

Contact Dell, or go to Dell digital locker and enter your tag.

It might also be associated with first user's microsoft email account...

Or might be embedded in BIOS.

Like windows keys these days are embedded in BIOS- you can use tools like ShowKey plus to show you the embedded key from system motherboard.

Maybe they put in the Office keys too, maybe some other tool can extract Office key from bios too, if they really put it there.
