17 R3, blue screen error, bad pool header

Hi,

I recently purchased Alienware 17-R3 (Intel 6700HQ, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD, Windows 10) When I'm using my computer it automatically restarts leading to windows blue screen saying bad pool header. Please help me to solve this problem.

Thanks & Regards,

Rukshan

Rukshan,

Thank you for the kudos/shout out brother! ***, we were on in this issue together. I'm just thrilled we FINALLY have justice (lol), and the faulty program has been FIXED! Now we can get back to enjoying this expensive piece of equipment w/o concerns that the hardware is faulty/defective/bad! (Well, at least in regards to this BSOD issue that Support Assist was giving so many of us!)

CHEERS!

Jester945271,

Did you completely uninstall the previous version of it from windows "Programs And Features?" If so, did you reboot after that uninstall? Did your Alienware model M18x R2 originally come w/ Support Assist (some models aren't supported, and run Alien Respawn software solutions instead.)

If your Alienware does have Support Assist, I recommend you also do the following:

Additionally, I also strongly recommend you install the latest versions of these 2 programs BEFORE YOU INSTALL DELL'S SUPPORTASSIST:

- Dell Foundation Services version 3.1.3300.0, A00
- Dell Digital Delivery version 3.1.1002.0, A00

Now install Support Assist:

direct link to download the latest version of Dell's SupportAssist version 1.2.6793.01 is below. YOU MUST UNINSTALL ANY/ALL PREVIOUS VERSIONS PRIOR TO DOWNLOADING THIS LATEST VERSION!!- Dell Support Assist

And make sure you update other components of your equipment (NOTE: your latest version #s may vary since your model is different than mine - I have an Alienware 17 R3)

Then make sure you've updated:

- BIOS to version 1.2.8
- Killer Ethernet E2400 Driver (DO NOT DL from Dell. DL directly from Killer's website for LATEST version stability and support to prevent BSOD conflict issues!!!!!!!!!!! CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH!!!! Download here >>>>> Killer Home Page (you need to look up your specific product)
- Intel Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework Driver version 8.1.10603.192, A01
- Intel Management Engine Interface Driver version 11.0.0.1173, A02
- Intel Chipset Device Driver version 10.1.1.7, A00
- Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver version 14.6.1.1030, A01
- Intel HD Graphics Driver to version 20.19.15.4390, A07
- (optional if you have nVIDIA) Geforce GTX 960M/965M/970M/980M/690M/780M Driver version 10.18.13.5940, A03

Enjoy your stable system! Report it to us if it's not!!

Hi, I'm not Jester, but I'll report anyway...

The Support install re-installs Foundation and Delivery services if these have previously been uninstalled, so you don't need them installed and may want to remove again them anyway.

I'm not getting BSODs, but I rarely, if ever, did before when the previous Support Assist was installed - I would have thought that these 17r3 are all very much the same, so why this was a problem for some users, but not others, is strange.

However, my system is not stable; it freezes with no dump or error reports, no information at all other than the time of the event, and this happens every 7 days or sooner, and apparently totally randomly.

Hi All I followed advice, removed supportassist, removed Foundation services and Digital delivery and installed all the latest versions and still no change. I run the package it shows the status bar which get about 9/10ths of the way and then says the software was not successfully installed, please reboot before reinstalling and when I do this the same happens

Hello, thanks for your advice. I bought a 15 r2 like 3 days ago. First night I got it BSOD, bad pool header was the error code. I was so devastated, because I spent all this money and first night i got it BSOD. I work at Geek Squad so I was trying to work through the problem before demanding a return. Ran the dell diags 3-5 hour diag and no bad hardware, I followed your instructions to the T and no BSOD yet. One thing I have to change is that people should get the updated RST driver directly from Intel, and the nvidia drivers through actual nvidia website. Everything else of course through dell.

Will report back in a week or two. I spent 3 days trying to fix this BSOD so im happy I found your post. Idk if you work for dell, but you deserve a raise if you do.

It's crazy that all of us received our laptops around the same time, most opted for max specs, and we all are having the same issues with crashing. I was thinking they sent me a ton of defective parts, or maybe the RAM was impropperly seated, and SO DIDN'T want to send the system back for repairs, but hopefully we all find a universal solution soon in this thread. Thanks everyone for putting this out there. We spent a ton of money to have to fix all these technical issues within the first week of receiving our new notebooks.

The company I work for has always been a big dell shop so pretty much all of my laptops have been high end dells, over the years.  This was a personal purchase and while I love this thing now that I have the problem seemly resolved, I am kind of disappointed in the experience.  The other crazy thing is that I've counted at least a couple of different fixes.

I totally agree man. Pretty frustrated when this happened. But so far it's been 5 days maybe and no BSOD after following his instructions. I can even finally play the division medium settings no blue screen. Now that it's fixed I am satisfied with my purchase.

Hi I've had this problem with my alienware 17 R3 with the same specs as yours and after doing everything in your answer the problem was fixed. But afterwards I noticed there was a new BIOS 1.2.12 out on the dell alienware 17 R3 website. So I created a restore point and then proceeded to update all my drivers on the dell website. But this caused problems when running an extended test on support assist and after restoring to my last restore point, the BIOS was still 1.2.12. But after running another extended test it passed without any problems at all. The problem now is, sometimes when I press the power button to turn on my device, it won't respond at all and it takes almost a minute or so for the computer to start making noises and actually turning on. On some occasions the keyboard and lights would all come on for a few seconds and then shut off again and then the device itself would actually turn on. Please help thank you.

Dells support site.

Prefer do-it-yourself support? Let's get started.

Dell support offers a variety of resources and tools to help you identify and resolve issues, as well as tutorials, how-to videos and more.

Customer.

No I prefer to have a brand new system turn on and work.

A Blank screen and 4 beeps is not what I paid over $3000 for.

Problem?

Dell.

These beeps are part of our self test built into our laptops.

The system comes with a self test.

Customer.

Oh really? It Beeps!

Dell.

Do you know what a self test is?

Customer.

Yeah,

You plug it in and it don't work! Yeah good job, that's a self test!

I could do a self test on myself, I can take a knife and stick it in my finger and see if it blood comes out, hey yeah that's a self test!

Dell.

Four or five beeps, lets know what's wrong with the system.

Customer.

Yeah it don't work!

You sent me a freaking broke system!

Now take your freaking beeping system the beep back and give me a new one!

Dell.

Sir,the new policy is, sorry it has to go to depot to get fixed.

Customer.

Why! Why does a brand new system DOA slip through quality control

and not be replaced with a new on?

Dell.

Sir, maybe we are getting into too much detail.

Customer.

No we are not!

Take this broken system back and send me what I freaking paid for!!
