Dual Monitor Setup - Alienware 17 R2

Hello, Its been 6 months I bought the 17 R2 and works all good. I had a spare Dell 24 inch monitor which I connected the HDMI and use it as my main screen. The laptop comes with a 980m 4 GB. Have noticed that the HDMI output comes from Intel which I don't care.

Lately I have decided to connect another monitor using the Mini Display Port and have a dual screen experience for gaming. Will a mini display to HDMI cable work and I can have display on both the screens. Does the Alienware support multiple display output. Googled a lot BTW and could not find a good answer without using the Graphics amp.

Thanks in advance for the help

I am not sure if you can use both the mDP and the HDMI at the same time. You will need to test this and report the results.

Lid open 17-R2 mDP out --> mDP to HDMI cable --> Monitor #1 HDMI in (extended desktop) = Works yes or no
=====

Lid closed 17-R2 mDP out --> mDP to HDMI cable --> Monitor #1 HDMI in (primary desktop) = Works yes or no

Not a 17 R2, but with a 13 R1 (it has an HDMI and mini DP port), I was able to get video output through both ports, so the same should happen for the 17 R2.

Thanks..but your hdmi shows up comning from Integrated intel or nvidia gpu...if It can't do surround then kind of useless.   .

They're both (mini DP and HDMI) routed to the integrated GPU, just like with the 17 R2. In recent time, only the Skylake laptops have the HDMI routed to the discrete GPU (the USB C port they have is routed to the iGPU/CPU).
