{MOVED}Alienware M17x R3 AMD HD 6970M Black Screen...HELP!

Hi, this is my first post here, so I apologize first for any inapropriate actions here.

So I have an Alienware M17x R3 bought a year ago with a windows 7 x64. Few days ago, my screen was just flashing and went black in middle of my skype call...

Not black black but the screen is still lit, but only black color. I rebooted, did not work. Though it runs ok under safe mode. I did a hardware check, no problem.

So I reinstalled the drivers and then the whole system. Not working. There are two graphic cards on my laptop. One is AMD Radeon HD 6970M and the other one is the secondary Intel one which I am currently using. I updated everything for my system and all the drivers but the Catalyst. Flashed my BIOS to A12. Then installed the Catalyst 12.10 again. Still black after booting. Tried Catalyst 12.02 and 12.08, same.

I locked the Intel card in the BIOS so the AMD card was forced to run and it was black from the start.

So I guess the problem is either the driver (which I have no idea why uninstall + reinstall will not work) or I basically messed up my graphic card. But I did nothing intense with it. (Does skype call counts as burning the graphic card? :(

So now this gaming laptop cannot game anymore...

Can someone please please help me with this? I am soooooo upset....

Thanks!

Hello,

I'm having the same issue with the same laptop and was wondering if the user ever resolved it. I woke up one morning and booted my computer, and fell back asleep for a few minutes when it was at the log-in screen. When i woke up again the battery must have depleted, and I had to do a hard restart to get the computer to turn back on with the adapter plugged in. After that the computer would go to black after the windows logo, but before the log in screen. I thought I had corrupted the boot record by losing power/doing the hard restart, so I reinstalled windows. Alas, though, whenever trying to update the video card drivers the screen goes black again and I have to do a restart and revert till before trying to install the drivers. Everything else works normally.

Specs are the same as the original poster. I was thinking of just buying a replacement video card, but it doesn't appear that Dell sells the card any more. Their tech support chat was not helpful, and they constantly try to push me toward a 100 dollar charge for what I assume will end up with "ok yes, you need to replace the card - but sorry we don't sell it anymore!"

The laptop is about 3 years old. I've never had a video card die before at least 5 years, but then again I've never owned a computer put together by Dell.
