BSOD Alienware m17x r4 Error code : 0x116

Hi,

It has been a while i'm trying to resolve this issue but still no solution.

My pc does BSOD while i am gaming, and only while gaming.

First i'll give you my specs :

CPU
Intel Core i7 3630QM @ 2.40GHz 55 °C

Motherboard
Alienware M17xR4 (U3E1) 28 °C

Storage
698GB DWW-DXE127CY3R5 (RAID)
Optical Drives
HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GA31N
Audio
Sound Blaster Recon3Di

The description of the BSOD from whocrashed :

On Sun 8/02/2015 00:01:23 GMT your computer crashed
crash dump file: C:\Windows\memory.dmp
This was probably caused by the following module: nvkflt.sys (0xFFFFF88003160010)
Bugcheck code: 0x116 (0xFFFFFA801AB94010, 0xFFFFF88003160010, 0xFFFFFFFFC000009A, 0x4)
Error: VIDEO_TDR_ERROR
file path: C:\Windows\system32\drivers\nvkflt.sys
product: NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 327.45
company: NVIDIA Corporation
description: NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 327.45
Bug check description: This indicates that an attempt to reset the display driver and recover from a timeout failed.
A third party driver was identified as the probable root cause of this system error. It is suggested you look for an update for the following driver: nvkflt.sys (NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 327.45 , NVIDIA Corporation).
Google query: NVIDIA Corporation VIDEO_TDR_ERROR

What i have done for trying to resolve this issue :
-format and clean install of windows 7
-checked drivers of both intell and geforce (installed the dell ones, also the latest ones from the sites of intelle and geforce, also drivers that were recommended on forums for the same kind of issue)
-pre-boot diagnosys (no problem found)

-several diagnoses from dell or antivirus or other programs (no problems found)

-flash bios to newest version

-did a stresstest with furmark (geforce card reaches max 70degrees) (i must say i had BSODS of the same type while doing the stresstest)

So i'm a bit desperate now... i noticed that when i redo a driver install, i can game for a while (few days), than it starts crashing again.
My temporary solution is to deactivate the geforce card and game only with the Intell 4000 one.
the bsod only occurs while gaming, if i don't game, i can let the card activated and have never problems with it.

so i hope someone can help me here,i'm out of ideas.

Thanks in advance,
Sébastien

That's an attempt to reset the card and failed if its a x116. Check Nvidia control panel and make sure your using the latest driver that dell supplied. Your driver posted, the 327 branch and 330 branch had TDR issues on desk and laptop users of GTX 660 and GTX 670's, or you could get the popup in the system tray "Nvidia driver blah blah blah restarted..." Try a stable branch like 344.75 from GeForce.com. The r_347 branch like 347.25 and 347.52 are NOT recommended as they are problematic with a lot of users.

Also, when you say clean install, is this from an image or official Win 7 ISO that your using that's not an AW/Dell image? HAL.DLL may be corrupt and can report issues of 0x116

Worst care, could be a bad video card. Post the 4 BCP's from the blue screen next time it happens. These are the numbers posted after the 0x0000116 pops up.

I had the exact same issues, since 2 years and after i double checked every component i found out that the SSD-Drive was not properly connected. In my case the SATA-adapter was very loosy and this was the reason for the bluescreen i think.

I made several tests now after i connected the cable properly and now i can run every test just fine - even the alienware strain test from "pc checkup", but i still had no time to try really start some games to "force" the bluescreen out.

Hi.

yes i tried already different drivers, it doesn't change anything.

The clean install i did with the dell windows 7 dvd after i did every checking of driver or diagnose(i did that to eliminate any corrupt file or virus that could have made issues).

Like i said, i've been running the laptop for 2 years withtout any problem.
If it would be a bad GPU i think i would have had problems back then already.

I saw on another post that someone had this issue because of a bad or broken ac/adaptor making conflicts.
I'm thinking maybe it's that, but i can't test it :s (or i don't know how to test that without a new one)

I'll give you the 4 BCP's asap ;)

Dead GPU. GTX 675M has known issues. Google "GTX675M problems" for more info.

And I'm one of the people who had that problem. Only "fix" was to get a card with Kepler architecture.

hmm.. i thought about that.. but google any "card problem" and you will have results..so it doesn't really analyses the problem.

For about the ssd... yeh i'm thinking about disassembling my laptop to have everything checked... this will be my last resort, as well as trying to find another GPU.

Just need to check my adaptor, since the bleu led that worked on it to signal the alim is on power, doesn't go on anymore (and this happened a few months before my issue with the GPU), while it still gives power... so i'm thinking it can be the cause, but 'im not sure

Could you please send me your Service Tag via PM.
I'd like to see what else we can do about that video card.

If I'm not able to fix it, I might be able to get you another solution.
