Well w/o being able to review the health of the array and keep current firmware you have no real way of knowing if the replacement drives are really any better than what are in there now. You may want to buy some cold spares to have on hand to immediately replace any that fail.
Your method will force rebuilds over and over again.
You may want to consider getting it back under a support contract. If not, I would strongly suggest you keep verified backups at all times.
It is completely unsupported. We are looking into a replacement, but decisions take a long time around here. So I want to be prepared to run with our current array for quite a while

Hello,
Is this array still under support? If so contact Dell and they will review the health of each drive.
It's important to keep up to date on not only EQL array firmware but the drive firmware as well.
