I have not found a solution yet. I have emailed a support rep from our intial install last week, but I haven't heard anything yet. I am about to test tonight something I think that may be causing the issue. SCCM07 has it's own VSS service that backups the database/config. The service is called SMS_SITE_VSS_WRITER "smswriter.exe". I am going to disable this service to see if the Avamar VSS plugin will run properly. Disabling this service should not cause SCCM to crash from what I have read. If I get a full backup, them I can assume that the SCCM service is causing the issue with the Avamar VSS plugin. I will post the results.
Well, I got a full backup in 16min (26gig) when I ran a on-demand backup with the SCCM07 SMS_SITE_VSS_WRITER service disabled. I ran another on-demand backup with the service started, and it ran for over an hr which means it was failing like before. So I am assuming the SMS_SITE_VSS_WRITER service is causing the Avamar VSS plugin to fail. I am going to open a ticket with the infomation I have gathered. At least this is a work around to get a backup until I can get a fix. Thanks.

Hi there
I'm having the same issue except that mine is running on a Win2008 R2 box. Have you found a solution or opened a Service Request?
Thanks and regards

Any further news on this? I have the same issue with SCCM 07 and a 2008R2 server.

I opened one earlier this week as well. Support provided me with a hotfix for the same version you are running that resolved the issue.

You know it would really help if you posted the HOT Fix number in the thread
