avamar vmdk restore 5.0.3
I have a new install of avamar 5.0.3 Testing full image backup and restore. The backup worked fine, no errors, but when I try to do a restore I get the error "unable to retrieve virtual machine backup configuration" when I click the Restore Now button.
Doesn't go any further, nothing in the activity log.
I can't find this error anywhere on powerlink.
Thanks,
Glenn

yes, I can get to the share, but I am not trying to restore a single file, I am trying to restore the whole image, which shouldn't require a file proxy server

Post entire error message here for more information. Did you check if you can expand axionfs share on File Restore Proxy machine by UNC path
AvamarServerName\axionfs?

Is this the exact error you are getting? I don’t recall seeing such an issue while configuring restore job.

Sameer,
Yes that is the exact message, as I mentioned, there are no other errors or error logs, nothing logged in the event viewer.

Did you check other VMs to find out if this is to do with a specific machine? Are you trying to restore to same machine or existing VM or a new VM? Did you ensure correct steps are followed to configure restore job as given in below VMware Guide. We may need to review MCS logs as well if everything is properly configured. Please provide us details on version of avamar proxy, vCenter and ESX server.
Thanks and Regards,

Also did you try another date’s backup as it may also be the issue with that backup?

This is the only machine we have backed up, I just rna another backup of it and can't restore either job.
Yes I beleive I followed all the steps in the vmware guide.
Avamar proxy is v 5.0.106-28,
Both Vcenter and esx are 4.1.0
I don't even get to the point of choosing a new VM vs an existing VM.
Thanks,
Glenn

From the avamar administrator, I go to bacup/restore.
I choose the restore tab, and expand and choose my client I want to restore. I choose the job, and select "All Virtual Disks" Then I choose Actions, and "Restore Now" I immediately recieve the error. I do not get to the next screen where you would pick restore to over existing or to new machine.
There is no backup log generated, the Actity screen shows no attempt at a restore job. I opened a ticket with sev 2, but its been 4+hrs and haven't heard back from them.

Above statement is kinda confusing....
You mentioned earlier that you get this message after submitting the restore job and not while configuring restore job, correct??. So can I assume you are restoring to the same VM from where backup was taken? In addition, can you review backup log and see if there was any flag added like x22 something?

Avamar administrator client was running SP2 and Avamar Server was on SP3
