Degree of parallelism during backups
I am new to Avamar, and am working on getting our SQL servers backing up with Avamar.
First...What gives with the blackout period? No Transaction log backups for 3 hours...tough to swallow. From my limited testing, it seems to even block the tail-log backup when attempting a restore during blackout.
Second...I've so far set up three SQL Servers to backup to Avamar. Part of these backups are transaction log backups hourly. None of these are big servers, in fact the total of the last three transaction log backups was just under 40 mb. Watching these run withing the Activity monitor in Avamar Administrator, it looks like they were run serially instead of in parallel, based on the Progress Bytes. If this is the case, there may be some issues (beyond the blackout) that crop up once I start putting our bigger servers in these Policy groups.

Hi,
You can backup SQL server data using multiple parallel data streams with Avamar v6.1,
You can either back up multiple databases in parallel with one stream per database, or back up a single database using multiple parallel streams. Please review this document for details :

Unfortunately, we can't perform backups during blackout window, you may consider SQL in-built mechanisms to do log backup during blackout window

But, don't parallel data streams occur on one machine as you described?
I'm talking about when you have three clients selected in one policy. It appears that they run serially instead of in parallel.
And for the SQL backups - and I believe I'm beating a dead horse here - if you do transaction log backups during black out, but use the Avamar SQL Client the rest of the time, you break the backup chain established by Avamar. So the real decision is either do all of your backups using SQL and use Avamar to backup the backup files, or get used to a 3-4 hour span with no transaction log backups.
