Just read in another thread, that I have to delete ALL checkpoints for this filesystem, then the occupied space is released back to the storage... Is this really correct?

Is this still the issue with VNX, that all checkpoints must be deleted to regain space to the storage pool? Running VNX code 05.32

Hi,

if you are using a VNX2 model and your savvol is created on a pool based LUN you can use the new functionality for savvol space reclaim.

With that features we basically figure out which blocks of the savvol are no longer used and free them in the pool via a SCSI UNMAP. The freed blocks are then available for other use in the pool.

That mans while your savvol still have the same logical size it will take less space in the block pool.

see  VNX OE 8.1.8 / 05.33.008 new features and enhancements
