I am studying for the EMC ISM 10-001 cert, and need some information on practice tests.

I know there is practice testing out there, but I wanted to know if there is individual tests for each chapter of the ISM V2 book.  I would like to test my knowledge on each of the individual chapters, and know if I am ready to move on to the next chapter.  If there isn't such a source available, is there anything else out there?  All help and input would be appreciated.

Hi Alex,

I know what you mean, I wanted the same for myself. In fact, I did prepare Question set for ISMv1 for me and large bunch of group at work ourself. To be honest with you ISM being basic certification, I feel we over did it! Let it be ISMv2 or SNIA both holds the same knowledge. In fact, SNIA has more to offer to if you are really curious about the  SAN Technology Theory than ISM. The modules are vast and detailed. I chose ISM over SNIA since, I wanted to pursue other EMC Certification and to be honest, I did not want to go that deep in theory as I used to work on iSCSI, FC on a daily basis.

At the moment, Chapterwise Tests are not available nor do I recommend to go for any third party vendor at the end they end up with brain dumps.

However, if you really are interested in learning and mastering ISMv2 and do not have any certifications planned for at least 3months this is what you can do:

- Read every chapter page by page.

- Make your notes.

- Prepare flash cards in Q's and Answer format which you can refer to while commuting to work or whenever you wish.

(If you are using an Android based SmartPhone I recommend to use Flashcard Machine (www.flashcardmachine.com) paid version. (Its cheap)

- Check your understanding in Studen Discussion Group.

- Appear the Official Practic Test Exams available from EMC.

- Check the Score, it will give you the output where you have flunked...if the score is good, don't stress yourself for 100%

(Remember, the goal should be to clear the cert with flying colours not getting 100% Score everytime, we all are human and bound to make mistakes. Rattofying the 500 page book and waiting long time for giving cert would not be wise) Many colleagues have still not given ISM because of that reason and over-reading just lost their interest in the certification! My advice, secure the certification, the moment you are confident enough to clear the cert! You can read more, after you clear the certification. 70% Score or 90%, it doesn't matter!

Hey Dude,

You are giving me a lot of confidence in going for the exam.

Not only that, I feel that all my hard work can be paid of (not only passing, but getting a good job) if I follow your suggestions.

People like you are very rare who are precise with the explanations which only makes a freak's (like me) life easier!.

Thanks once again, keep up the good work.

Cheers

Hrashal

Hey Ankit,

Thanks for accepting the request, be rest assured that I won't ping you for Job requests.

You are already doing so much selflessly, it would be cruel to ask you for a favour!

Thanks, waiting for your response on my discussion post if you have any idea.

Regards

Harshal

Thank You, Harshal. I'm overwhelmed with your response! You made my day!

Anyhow, below are the facts I would like to share with you based on your response:

  1. Clearing ISM will just help you passing the Certification. Agreed, it may help you in interviews but getting the job depends more on YOU. There are lots of things at play rather than just a certification. For Eg. Interview Skills, You Knowledge of the Subject, How you answer to the query, your goals etc.
  2. You’re not a freak! Getting stressed out before or during exams and get totally psyched is normal, at least to me!
  3. I have approved your request to connect with me on a LinkedIn but please, do not PM for a Job. I am open for a fruitful Technical Discussion and Queries but not that!
  4. IMO, Kate H. is doing an excellent job! There have been many innovative programmes and knowledge sharing recently! I am quite amazed about her enthusiasm and participation as the Community Manager in the proven professional community and student discussions.

Good Luck!

Ankit
