NW 8.1 + EBR + External Proxy + VMware Policy
Hello,
Currently, I have 8.1 to a Data Domain setup. I also have a second DD that I will be performing a clone to. Backing up the VMs are working great. However, I have some questions:
1. Certain VMs have files within them that require certain retention policy (i.e. 1 year). However, the VM image themselves require only 5 days of retention. Should I create two policy with 1 year and another for 5 years? Or should I install the NW agent on the VMs that require the 1 year retention? My thought was to use the former option because of the dedupe rate within the Data Domain. I wouldn't really be consuming too much space because of the dedupe ratio. Am I way off here?
2. I have EBR appliance and 1 external proxy configured. When I tried backing up more that 10 VMs, I was only seeing 5 VMs being backed up at once. I thought the EBR would handle 8 VMs while the External Proxy backs-up the rest. Am I missing something here?

Hi,
When you write : Certain VMs have files within them that require certain retention policy (i.e. 1 year), did you mean "Files" or "VMDK" ?
If this is "Files" you can't separate them with EBR, you have to backup them with Client as a physical client with two separate policies.
If this is "VMDK", you can't seperate them with VMware image backup.
For the second question, you should have 16 simultaneous flux.

Hi,
For the second query , check the parallelism value set @ the VBA Policy.
