Issues Backing Up SQL active active cluster with mount points

Hi - we have the following setup

2 x physical Windows Server 2012 hosts (fully patched) with SQL server 2012 installed.  They are configured in an active/active cluster.  The databases all sit on mount points.

I have created a group with the 2 physical nodes in and then the SQL instance

the 2 physical nodes are not scheduled.

When starting the backup I firstly receive an error from the client:  Internal error and nothing more, there are no corresponding logs on the host that indicate any problem

the second error message I received is from the SQL instance which is a little bit more detailed but hasn't led me to any resolutions which is where im hoping the community might be of use:

Make sure the replication service is running on all the nodes. Below is the entry from the nmm.raw that you shared earlier.

. Exception caught: %s 1 0 279 Could not connect to "RMAgentPS"(Replication Manager Client for RMAgentPS) service on port 6728 of host INSTANCE2.STIMM.apmn.org. Please stop and start the service and try again. Make sure to remove any stale entries for the host INSTANCE2.DOMAIN.ORGin etc\hosts file.

UPDATE:  there is a application error log from the host:

Event ID 1:  The group or resource is not in the correct state to perform the requested operation

Event ID 1:  NMM backups failed to complete successfully

Hi!

Is your group a snapshot enabled-group?

I think you should look for error messages in ...EMC NetWorker\nsr\logs\nmm*.raw & *snap*.raw (I don't remember the exact filenames

Can you share the file nwsnap.raw that is at the location \nsr\logs of the primary node of the failing instance.

Hi Guys - thanks for your quick replies. please find a redacted nwsnap.  I was unable to locate the other NMM*.raw that you mentioned

The other files should be under \nsr\applogs

Hi Crazyrov - ive started that service and it appears to have pushed me to another clue: see attached pic.  which seems pretty self explanatory.  I've asked the SQL DB guys to check the permissions on the service account and will get back give a marked answer.

Hi Guys - thank you for all your help, got a successful backup.  there was an extra step at the end, please see these steps I took with your help:

1. Start the RMagentPS service - next error message stated that login credentials not sufficient

2. changed service account to one with correct permissions

3. service wouldn't start

4. renamed /tmp folder with .old restarted services

5. kicked off the backup and it worked

Many thanks
