I had the same problem except with a windows xp install. Oddly enough I switched the position of the scsi hd on the cable and it recognized the drive. The way to check is hit ctrl + a at the scsi boot and choose the second option. If your hd shows up then it should work, if not keep switching spots on the cable. Hope this helps.
