VMAX SNMP trap - Trap Variables
Hi,
We are trying to understand trap forwarding from VMAX for any alerts/events in the VMAX array. As far as as I understand, we can configure SNMP through Unisphere.
- Is there any other configuration that can be done to receive VMAX traps?
- Besides, where can I get the MIB files for VMAX
- Are there any documents around understanding the Trap Variables for the same.

Hi,
in respect or recieving traps SNMP is the recommended way of configuring them. There is a really useful doc that goes into more detail on configuration and the trap variables
https://support.emc.com/docu78909_VMAX-Management-Software-8.3-Events-and-Alerts-Guide.pdf?language=en_US
and the mib's can be found here they are marked 7.x but can be used on 8.x

install SE on any of the server available (preferably with direct storage/FC connection) and setup storevntd . You just need to tune the daemon_options file pointing to the SNMP trap destination that you have in your environment. personally I used EMC SRM back end server as the trap destination. You can use what is available in your environment.

If an alert is sent via SNMP, does the recipient have to "CLEAR / ACK" the alert to allow a second alert to be sent?
