DVD drive for Poweredge 1600 SC
I have a Poweredge 1600 SC windows 2003 server. It has served me well as a file server all these years.
It has A raid array with 2 Ultra SCSI 320 36GB drives. Which is enough for me.
Someone in our office tried to hotswap a drive. And it messed up the boot record, so that I get a boot failure.
I have tried to change around the drive sequence in the RAID utility and still no good.
I tried to boot from DIsks drives. Drive A is a 3.5" old floppy.... Drive B is an old CD rom.
So unless there is a hidden boot record. I am aware of 3 options.
A. Get a Bootable CD ROM. - Where do I get that?
B. Install a DVD Drive and boot from that one - How and where do I get a compatible DVD drive to that motherboard
C. Get a reader/cable/adapter so I can try to repair and read the drive externally, and download the data. Can't see to find any reader like that.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hello,
I have a few part numbers for an optical drive, 4M909, 8Y926, C6120, G1793, and UD460. These are DVD drives.Searching a website like ServerSupply may help, they have parts for older systems, but not sure about this model specifically.
As for Server 2003, I'm not sure where to suggest looking. I tried to find it on Microsoft's page, but couldn't locate anything.

I am just trying to get the card that this optical drive should connect. Or does it connect directly to the motherboard.
Like a replacement for the 3.5 Disk drive?

I am attaching the cable interface that is currently attached to the CD rom drive. So the optical drive will have to fit this.

That's an IDE cable. The DVD drives I am looking at also have an IDE interface. They should work after connecting one to that cable.

I did get a DVD drive and installed it. Also burned an ISO image into it. Hiren's disk
Now I am getting a PCI system error interrupt at F000: A342
Maybe it is the new DVD drive not agreeing with PCI card. who knows.
But I am afraid that I am beating a dead horse...
Probably the best way to go now is just to save the data on the drive. Which is my main concern.
So if you can please steer me in the this direction. I would need some kind of setup so I can read a SCSI Ultra 320 36GB drive. That is one of my 2 drives on the Raid array.
Like a SCSI controller card with a cable. I would be happy if there was something external that could read this drive.

Unfortunately, the only thing that I can really recommend would be a data recovery service, like Drive Savers. Depending on how important this data is, that may not be cost effective. While I would be willing to bet there are PCI cards out there that would let you connect a SCSI drive and pull that data in, I really can't vouch for any particular devices being any better than anything else. There aren't any Dell cards that I can really investigate either, which would be the easiest way to find a viable option.
I wish I had some better advice for you, but I also want to make sure I don't make a bad recommendation.
