FPS keeps fluctuating DELL 7577

Hello Everyone,

I own a Dell Inspiron 7577 laptop which is a month old. I have been playing games at a good 70-90FPS with the 1060 Max Q. Games like PUBG/CS GO/Dota 2.

Recently I had purchased a Benq Zowie XL2411 monitor and cabled it to the laptop, also an external keyboard and a mouse is connected.

For the past 4-5 days, I have been facing consistent FPS drop when the laptop is in plugged in mode. FPS drops from 90 to 14 and then goes back. I could see a lot of stutter. So I went on clearing all the possibility like Driver update, Resetting the laptop, removing the monitor, making sure the power plan is in high performance, heat issue, but all failed to rectify the FPS throttling. Also the laptop couldnt run the video card stress test 2 out of 3 times.

So I took my laptop to the Authorised Service center, and they had no clue what an FPS or a DPI meant. They told me the hardware is working fine and the only thing that they can help is in flashing the drives and reinstalling the OS. When I went to the service center and started testing for like 30-40 mins everything went fine FPS was stable at 60 with drops till 35-40 but was tolerable.

So I took my laptop back home and plugged it and in 30-40mins boom again FPS keeps dropping and rising 90 to 14 to 90. Got really fed up and thought the problem was with the Power supply, so got a UPS and tested. It worked fine for an hour and again BAM drop 90-14-90.

This is getting annoying and I need you guys to help me on this. I am in the verge of going to the DELL  Showroom and returning the laptop.

Listen its prob this issue. I have had many issues with this POS. They all seem to go back to thermal issues caused by BIOS. Dell doesn't know how to make a laptop as usual.

Anyway set your "maximum processor state" in power options to 99%. This fixes most issues and causes another.

Now you wont have any therm issues. Now you'll be running at 2.1 GHz instead of 4.1 GHz because 99% turns off turbo boost. So enjoy reduced frames at speeds far below what you paid for just because dell as usual doesn't know what they are doing. it took me 15 years to buy another dell after I bought a another POS dell laptop 15 years ago. LAST TIME I DO THAT!

Yep I've been having this problem particularly in bfv, for me it's def throttling. I play with someone who has an Alienware laptop who has none of theseissues I really wish I had gone that root now...

I'm impressed that noone from dell support is reading or answering here.

I have the same exact issue : impossible to play battlefront 2 with 10-15 fps on sector. I have reinstalled windows, everything is uptodate but no, doesn't work. Will never buy dell again.

Well, I have came across this solution too (although I have to turn my maximum processor state to 87%), but I can still squeeze 50 to 60 fps on games like PUBG or Apex legends with rare moments of it dropping to 40 fps. I am just happy there are no more sudden fps drops that ruin the whole gameplay. If anyone else is experiencing performance drops due to GPU spikes, just try to adjust "maximum processor state" until your GPU usage during gameplay only comes close to 100% or reaches 100% but does not drop your fps. You can find this option by typing "Edit power plan" in the search bar, from there you should click on "Change advanced power settings" and then find "Processor power management". Just try to find what works best for you (like I said, mine was 87%). It may be not the best solution and it is possible that you will drop a few frames, but it is still better than nothing :). I also undervolted my CPU (i5 7300HQ) to -130mV, but this may not be necessary. Well, good luck, hope it fixes your problem, any feedback would be awesome! :)

I solved my problem by disabling turbo boost and underclocking with throttlestop app. Google it . Changing maximum processor rate to 99 or below didnt actually disable my turbo boost.

okay guys after using this laptop for almost 2 Years , i have got 1 Replacement of Whole Motherboard.

Process Maximum Rate i have tweaked it to 99% now , has some improvements , has a Coolpad too it works fine.

But yes this laptop is Bummber by Dell Guys they added nice components with very bad heat syncs you can't help it guys its a wastage as its something u have to deal with otherwise every other task it kills it but when its about processing/rendering/gaming. Heat Kills the performance.

Another Inspiron 7577/GTX 1050 user here, have encountered same stuff.

In games like Apex or Overwatch, after 5-10 minutes of active gameplay, laptop starts this horrific stutter/low FPS, and generally is hot like crazy. My main guess now: reason for that is overheating and thermal throttling, with CPU being the main culprit.

Issue seems to be mitigated to some extent by:

* Better air flow under the laptop bottom (i.e. go construct\buy some sturdy and safe cooling structure)

* Undervolting/underclocking CPU, and of course disabling any kinds of Turbo Boosts for CPU. I'm trying small ThrottleStop .exe-app for that now, and it seems to work well.

If issue persists, I will absolutely go for replacement of the thermal paste. From some other thread about this issue, I recall that someone said he was very surprised about how bad paste looked just after 1 year of laptop use.

And of course DELL laptop constructors/engineers deserve some shame for this. DELL tries to present itself as a good reputable brand. For the money we pay, we, consumers, should get a good cooling/heat-dissolving tech, not this miserable and confusing situation.

I was having this problem too, I tried everything but it didn't fix it. The last time I saw the screen turning off while testing the RAM, I took it to the repairman, he said there was a problem with the data buses, he bought 90 dollars and he solved the problem.
