M6600 ONLY BOOTS W/ POWER ADAPTER UNPLUGGED; ON BATTERY ONLY

I have an M6600 and it recently started booting ONLY on battery power. A year ago the OEM battery died and I replaced it with one from Amazon, instead of Dell. For a year everything has worked fine, then the new battery started the old message "plugged in, not charging." I gave up and bought a new DELL OEM battery and power adapter. I reinstalled both drivers and since then this...If it has the power adapter plugged in, it boots to a dark navy blue screen (NOT A BSOD; that's a much lighter shade of Blue than this). It never gets to any state where I could press F2, F8 or F12. None of those work. If I then force a shut down, unplug the power adapter and press the start button, then it starts normally. Weirdly, once it's running OK, if I plug in the power adapter, nothing bad happens. The battery starts charging, goes to 100% just as always. The machine simply will neither cold boot nor restart while the power adapter is plugged in. Any ideas what's going on?

I ran Dell Online Diagnostics and Repair and performed a repair boot. I tried reinstalling the power adapter driver. None had any effect. Same boot problem still exists.

Oh, the original OEM power adapter still works, but makes no difference in the boot problem. The machine won't boot while either adapter is plugged in. AND, the new battery is working and charging perfectly.

I would assume the chargers are OK, but the new battery? Not necessarily.

Personally, I think the only way to know is to roll the dice and try another OEM battery.

If you are in the US, there are many sellers on eBAY that have the 97Whr battery and they are inexpensive (about $33 or so). I'd go with a seller in the US with a good feedback score, and a policy that you can do a 30day return, although you may have to contact them first to get specifics.
