Studio XPS 8100, adding 2TB non-booting HDD
I have a Studio XPS 8100 with a 1TB HDD partitioned into C: and D: drives and a second 640GB HDD with the whole drive assigned as E:. I'm running Windows 7 HP SP1 64-bit.
The E: drive is running out of space. I would like to copy the contents of the 640GB E: drive to a 2TB WD Black HDD and then replace the 640GB HDD with the 2TB WD HDD and assign E: to the new HDD.
Will the 2TB capacity of the WD Black HDD cause me any problems?
Is there anything I need to do to prepare the desktop or the 2TB HDD for this update?

The 2TB capacity should not cause any problems and you do not need to do anything to prepare the desktop. You do need to initialize and format the new HDD which you should be able to do in Disk Management (Press Windows + R to launch Run dialog window > type "diskmgmt.msc")

You should be able to initialize the new 2TB HDD using a USB dock, I don't see how that would be any different from initializing a memory stick.

Can I initialize and format the new 2TB HDD with it hooked to the desktop using a USB (2.0) dock or do I need to physically install it into the desktop?

OP here following up with more questions . . .
I plan to move this secondary 2TB HDD from the Windows 7 XPS 8100 to a new Windows 10 desktop later this year.
Will I have problems if I format this new HDD as GPT on Windows 7 and then move it to a Windows 10 PC as is?
