Dell R810 with PERC H710 (Firmware: 21.3.5-0002)

Looking to install 3 new 1.8TB dell certified SAS drives into a new R810 server with a PERC H710 raid controller running the most current firmware release 21.3.5-0002 and all 3 drives when in the Configuration utility report as failed. They do however recognize in our R630 servers Raid controller so the drivers are not bad. Are there limitations to size that are keeping these from recognizing or are they just not compatible with this controller?

It's probably a compatibility issue, as you mentioned. As for the controller, did you mean H700? I ask because the H710 was coupled with the 12G servers that came after the R810.

The only other thing that you might be able to do is update the hard drive firmware, but you'd need to get the make and model of the drives for that.

If you'd like to share the part number of the drives, Im happy to check them on my side, as well.

I can confirm that it is definitely a PERC H710 controller, and the part number for the drive is RF9T8 (Dell Certified 1.8TB SAS 6 Gbps 512e RPM 10K). They are on FK39 currently which from what i can tell is the most current on the support site.

Looks like the drives were predominately used in storage devices, but were used in some servers, as well. However, it looks like they were all 12 generation and up. The PERC you're using is a 12G model, so it should see the drives, but we're getting that plus an error.

Only other thing I can think to do would be to use OpenManage to export a PERC log to see if the controller is logging why the drives are being put in that state. It's looking like you may be right about a compatibility problem, and the PERC log would hopefully confirm.

Have the LSI log for the RAID controller. What would be the easiest way to share that?

You should have an option to attach files below the text box where you would type your response. If you don't see that, PM me.

No place to attach below the text box. Can attach a picture or put a link but no option for attaching or uploading of the log file.
