pointer jumps top of screen frequently

Inspirion  17 7000 series - i have tried turning off touch pad, have updated all the drivers that are listed.  The pointer jumps to a spot about 1 inch from center of the top of screen.  sometimes you can drag it back down, sometimes it just flutters until you click many times.  white circles pop up when you try and move the cursor

Thank you for your message. Does this happen with any particular application or does it happen irrespective of the application used?

Does the cursor move even with the touchpad disabled?

Type & click on Settings on the start screen – click on Devices – Touchpad & change the sensitivity & check if the issue persists.

For my reference, please click on the message tab next to your avatar– click “New Message” & search for my Dell username (Dell-Sreejith R) & send a private message with the service tag, registered name & email address.

Click here to find the service tag -  https://dell.to/2xXUCUW

Thank you for the tag details.

If you have an external mouse connected, please disconnect the same.

Open device manager – Expand mice & other pointing devices – Right click on HID-compliant mouse & click on uninstall (check the box that says delete driver) & restart the computer. This will install the native driver & check if the issue persists.

Please share an image of the mouse properties screen with the pointer options tab clicked.

Type mouse on the start screen – click on mouse settings – Click additional mouse options – pointer options tab & share the screenshot.

Thank you for the image. This confirms that there are no mouse pointer settings that is causing the issue.

Please restart the computer & tap F2 to get into BIOS & check if the pointer issue persists & please share a video of the issue.

Hello, I know this is an old thread but I wanted to know if you found a solution to this, as I have been having similar issues. Thanks

Having same issue.

Uninstalled and updated drivers, updated bios.  persists. Is this hardware or software?

Did this issue ever get resolved?  I have come to the conclusion that Dell products are absolute garbage.  My 17.3 inch touch screen laptop is doing the same thing.  Customer service is useless.

Get an HP instead.  Or at this point, even a Commodore64 would be better than anything Michael Dell makes now.

I have seen the same behavior. Have you tried uninstalling the TOUCHSCREEN driver? That's what I ended up doing, because I recognized the cursor behavior as similar to how it works with the touchscreen. That worked. Once the touchscreen driver was uninstalled, the issue went away. I have since rebooted, and the driver was reinstalled. So far, the problem has not returned, but if it does, I will disable the touchscreen.
TL:DR; not a touchpad problem at all, but an issue with the touchscreen driver.
