CMOS battery stopped, now can't start up
Hello all,
I have a Dell PowerEdge R430 that I just yesterday powered down to take to another site. Unfortunately, upon starting it up it could not start up (No Operating System Found). Upon going into setup, I can see that all the disks in the server show as "Unknown", and the system event log logged an event for "the system board battery failed". We replaced the battery, but the issue persists. Fortunately, the data is still there - I verified it with a Linux live CD. Since I know that reseating the battery causes the BIOS to reset to defaults, what else should I change in order to get the OS to start again.

Hi,
I'm unsure of your setup on the server, so I'm not able to actually provide a solid answer. Though, you mentioned that all the drives in the server show Unknown. Would you be able to get a picture of it? And which setup are you referring to?
Many of the servers are setup with RAID, so I'm leaning toward on the SATA settings, changing it to RAID but you have highlighted on data is still intact, so we would need to know most of the setup in order for us to advice you.
Do let us know more of the server.

Hello,
Thank you for your help. The server is a PowerEdge R430. It has 4 disks in it, which are configured in a RAID. The total storage size of the virtual disk is 836 GB.
I will be back out to look at the server again tomorrow, please let me know if there are any specifics that you might need to have before I am out there again tomorrow(which will probably be around 10 AM CST).

Hi,
If the system is configure on RAID, the SATA settings should be set to RAID mode.
Other than that, I can't think of anything is set to default in BIOS after battery has been replaced.
Though, if the issue persist after SATA settings, do take picture of the system's BIOS menu, RAID BIOS configs and Drive status.

I did see that and almost changed it, but I am getting an alert that says that data loss may occur when I change that setting. I'll take a backup just to be sure, but am I going to lose data when I make that change?

Please, don't change any setting till being 100% sure.
Could you please take a picture or screenshot of this message? It would be much more easier for us to know in which enviorement are you having this message.
Also, can you boot the server. Use Ctrl + R to enter in the PERC BIOS and take a screenshoot of all tabs there? I am looking for a tab called Foreign config. From here you can import a Foreign Config (if there is any).

Did you solve it?
I'm experiencing the same symptoms.
In my case, pressing the power button does not shut down the server.
The server model you are using is the PowerEdge r430.
